I have known about this for a while, but am just now sitting down to pursue.
Can anyone tell me why my site looks awful in IE6? Why there are images boxes and captions on all of the images. I know PNG’s often don’t render well in IE6. But what else could be the cause of this.
Attached is a screenshot of IE6. The website is http://www.ncheroes.org

July 21, 2009 at 7:15 pm #311739Yeah, ie6 is not good. It really doesn’t like png files. Maybe change them to gif or try a plugin like ultimate png fix or something.
July 21, 2009 at 7:26 pm #311741Thanks for your response,
I have seen these plugins before but have never had much luck with them. Will give this one a shot and report back. Do you know if it will fix the boxes that for some reason surround the images in IE6?

July 21, 2009 at 7:47 pm #311742I am not sure if it will fix the boxes that you are experiencing. I’ve never used that specific plugin. Usually when boxes like that with an x in the corner show up in ie it’s a broken link to the image file. It could be the png issue but with ie6 and pngs you usually get a white background showing instead of being transparent. So my guess is maybe it isn’t actually a png problem per say but something different like a small error in the code to the image file. I can’t tell you for sure though. What I can tell you is I hate internet explorer. Especially the older versions.
July 21, 2009 at 8:03 pm #311743PNGFIX didn’t do the trick. As many of my .png images are links, and when using the plugin causes them to disappear completely. Also doesn’t work because on some of my content I have the clearfix class enabled – so some images needs white/gray background and others it needs a blue in order to appear transparent.

I found another thread that might be of some use.

July 21, 2009 at 9:49 pm #311753Thanks!
I actually just implemented this: http://24ways.org/2007/supersleight-transparent-png-in-ie6
It worked somewhat – I have a grey box around all of my PNG’s now, but I think that is better than a red x. Still working on it – but this seems to be the closest fix I can find. Where it replaces the background with a 1px .gif file.

July 21, 2009 at 10:54 pm #311755JA Fagus already includes a .png fix! /templates/ja_fagus/scripts/iepngfix.htc
For some reason you have removed the link to it from your <head> and therefore it’s not working.
July 21, 2009 at 11:33 pm #311756I think I did that today when I was messing with it. The pngfix that comes with fagus doesn’t fix the grey boxes that surround all of my png’s

July 22, 2009 at 8:53 am #311792You seem to have deleted ‘blank.png’ from your images folder? The iepngfix needs this to work. Or….. are you not using the quickstart? If not, then you need to copy the blank.png from the quickstart.zip and place it on your sites images folder.
