May 18, 2008 at 3:50 pm #128667Two questions:
First, is there any way for Teline II to integrate with iJoomla News and iJoomla Magazine? I love the presentation provided by the Joomlart modules but it isn’t a full-fledged system for creating a site that has Daily, Weekly, Monthly Issues of a Newspaper/Magazine.
Second, Teline II looks perfect for a news site…the presentation of Sections/Categories makes it look very similar (as somebody else had mentioned) to a professional news organization like the The Guardian:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/The main thing I notice that is different is the URLs. On a Joomla site the URL would be organized by the section/category/article-title, but on a news site the URL is more like category/month/day/article-title.
For a News Oriented site it seems like URLs in the news format would be useful, but I don’t know if they are completely necessary or not.
Comments are appreciated, but I would like reply to my first question on whether or not Teline II could be integrated with iJoomla News/Magazine or not :-).

May 19, 2008 at 4:16 am #249683Thanks for the reply, but it doesn’t seem like that’s the case since it didn’t really say in the template description that they were integrated.
It did however mention integration with JA’s News Module and other extensions (but not the iJoomla products).
I still think the template is great, just wondering if people had any thoughts on this (it might be too early to say on J!1.5 since iJoomla hasn’t really released all of their components to be native on it).

hello!
It’s possible, on one way ( template it’s not over)
my site it’s Lijepa naša
I use this way
Frontpage it’s ijoomla news ( you can easily add ja news fp modul if you have need for this)
Section page it’s ijoomla, but on bottom it’s modul position for ja_news which list categories, and categorie page it’s from mos ja_newsThat i don’t use categorie page from ijoomla
Example
Section page: http://www.lijepanasa.info/sport/Sport/index.html
Category page: http://www.lijepanasa.info/vijesti/hrvatska/It’s possible some errors on my page ( while template is ja_barite – but with ja teline stuff, highslide and other, completely redesign)

May 27, 2008 at 4:26 am #250680Hi omarram, nguoiabcd, valic, jayblaq and others who may join this thread,
Please keep me posted if you are able to make any progress in integrating the two, JA Teline II with iJoomla Magazine or iJoomla News.
In response to your question, the iJoomla Magazine and their News require template of other template developers. In fact, it was merav who directed me to Joomlart, and the JA Teline last year, when I outlined to her what I was expecting. The sole purpose of the iJoomla Magazine and their News is to enhance the capabilities of specific templates, to serve more like professional online magazine or newspaper.
In my opinion, the need for an iJoomla Magazine is less pressing now with JA Teline II, but at its current stage of development, JA Teline II does not have many of the features offered by iJoomla Magazine or related softwares.
I think the appearance of having “separate” online magazines for specific sections and their categories — allows more in depth presentation. This is not achieved by JA Teline II, as innovative as it is.
As you stated, JA Teline II is rather good compared to the other templates. However, as noted by the example of valic below, JA Teline II Introductory page for the Sections page is rather primitive at the moment.
<em>@valic 55164 wrote:</em><blockquote>hello!

Compared with valic’s Section page:
http://www.lijepanasa.info/sport/Sport/index.html
JA Teline II Introductory page for each section does not present the articles and other contents of the various categories in an orderly manner. I would expect for example, like the Front page module for the entire page, to allow the webmaster, to select the articles that will sample those that are in each of the categories in each section.
If you have tried to add your own articles in the JA Teline, check carefully how the articles are presented — it simply follows the order of the categories as follows:
category 1
=> articles in the category, arranged chronologically (latest first)
category 2
=> articles in the category, arranged chronologically (latest first)
etc.
etc.
etc.
category N
=> articles in the category, arranged chronologically (latest first)I hope my interpretation is incorrect, and there is a way around this, but as shown, the articles in category N would be burried in later pages — even if they are new or considered interesting.
JA Teline’s II Section introductory page may require more work. I hope Joomlart will take the time to improve it further.
Note:
On paper, I like the potential of the iJoomla Magazine, although I need some features of the iJoomla News to make each front page more like a professional paper — quotes, TOC, related items (within each article). etc. I discussed these desired features with Merav last year, and she promised she will combine the features of the iJoomla News with the Magazine, but until now she has done them yet.
Until now, iJoomla Magazine for Joomla 1.5.x is still in beta stage, I think and iJoomla News itself is still very undeveloped, aside from its being just suitable for Joomla 1.0.x I have not looked at the progress for several months now.
The bottom line, the goal of iJoomla Magazine and News are laudable, but they have not reached that goal yet.

May 27, 2008 at 8:37 am #250714Hello!
cgc0202, that is true!
But my opinion it’s that stuff from ja_teline 2 and ijoomla news can combine on several way to match users need( it’s not all in automatic),
My latest desicion it’s:
Front page:
1. Ja_news FP – that i can manual change order of article
2,3,4 – featured article from ijoomla news( i can manual change article)That i considere very important for fronpage of news portal, it’s neded some flexibilitet
Section page:
1.Top stories
2.Leading stories
3.More news
4. Ja news categorie from this section
Category page!
Just mos ja_news – this is very important to me, and why ja news, and not categorie from ijoomla
Simple: ja news- user can see older articles , much older, than to ijoomla news categories( no pagination and latest zone from ijoomla have max 100 article). For category it’s that enoughAnd for users it’s al most important in my page – 4 leading section and frontpage( at most visited, not category page, but see can read older articles)
Sorry on my english( it’s no so good)

I have been studying your page last night and I have a number of question for you. I like what you have done with the Section Introduction page and I would be very interested exactly how you have done it. I will post more detailed questions later tonight (my time) — assuming I have finished my stuff today.

Hi Jay,
Do you have a demo site for how your module has been integrated into the JA Teline II. I would appreciate to see an example.
I have a license for the iJoomla Magazine, but not the iJoomla News. Will your module works without the entire iJoomla software? If it is independent, as an independent module, would it require its own css?
I am able to install it, but when I access the Magazine through the component, I got an error.
Thanks.

this modul can you see also on my page, but in frontpage at bottom showing sections, latest news from each sections, an section name it’s linked to ijoomla news sections page.
But in section page at bottom it’s also ja_news modul, but linking to mos_ja_news category
Ask whatever you need:)

Hi valic,
To start, can you please outline (with some explanations please) how you added the layout for each section to include the categories for each section?
If I were to do this using ja_news, I was thinking of copying ja_news for each section and then renaming them so that the
ja_news_world
ja_news_sports
ja_news_arts_culture
etc.
etc.and “linking” each specific ja_news module to their respective section? Is this a plausible or even a practical strategy? What I find unappealing in the strategy I propose, if it even works, is that it will increase the number of modules way too much in a system
There must be a better way? There must be a more elegant way of doing this just by scripting?
Thanks.

I have understand good, i have make two screen shot(frontpage and section page , and numbered each zone in both pictures)
Frontpage
1. mod_ja_news fp
2. copy of ja_news – i call them ja_vijesti and this it’s modul like jayblaq have made
this it’s one modul listed with section – this section linked to ijoomla section
3,4,5 – this is zone from ijoomla news – featured article #1,#2,#3
Section page
1. Zones from ijoomla news – top stories
2. Zone from ijoomla news – leading stories
3. Zone from ijoomla news – more news
4. The regular one ja_news module that have categories from this section
in that modul categories are linked to blog section – jazin mambot – mos_ja_news
Each section have this modul at bottom with categoriesIn basic, all depend which way do you wish, that all it’s ijoomla news( frontpage, categorie, section), or mixed (ijoomla news + ja teline stuff)
while if you wish all from ijoomla, it’s enough the ja_news modul from my frontpage
But it’s needed some little change make for ijoomla magazinecgc0202 Friendcgc0202

</blockquote>Hi valic,
I will not include in this discussion the frontpage module for the section because it seems to work, at least?
Just to clarify, in regard the Sections intro page and inclusion of categories, it seems that the strategy that worked for you is similar to what I outlined then:
Your strategy (for the categories):
2. copy of ja_news – i call them ja_vijesti and this it’s modul like jayblaq have made
this it’s one modul listed with section – this section linked to ijoomla sectionmy suggestion: (as outlined above)
copy of ja_news => rename as ja_news_world
Thus, in the one I outlined above, to create Section Intro pages, if I have
100 Sections ==> 100 copies of ja_news
My proposed strategy will bloat the number of modules, and not a very good strategy.
Your strategy
I am not sure, if I understood you correctly: Are you stating that if you use the copy of ja_vijesti (a copy of ja_news), and used with iJoomla NewsPortal software, you only have to make one copy of ja_vijesti (a copy of ja_news) and it will now become the layout for all Section intro page? Or, do you still have to make a unique ja_vijesti (a copy of ja_news) for each section? That is:
Which of these is correct in your website: Strategy A or Strategy B?
Strategy A
10 Sections => same (1) ja_vijesti (a copy of ja_news)
and if:
100 Sections => still same (1) ja_vijesti (a copy of ja_news)Strategy B
10 Sections => 10 ja_vijesti (a copy of ja_news)
and if:
100 Sections => 100 ja_vijesti (a copy of ja_news)Note that Strategy B is exactly as I proposed.
If your procedure requires only one copy of a unique ja_vijesti (Strategy A) for all sections, then it is a good strategy, and less replication of the ja_news modules.
One other thing, if the above is correct, I assume, you need to install iJoomla News Portal?

Reasons:
1. If I can avoid adding more extensions to Joomla, it reduces the size of the entire site
2. Less programs coming from different sources minimizes unknown incompatibility
3. iJoomla is very slow in updating its softwares, to think that it only has few products, at the moment
4. I have not had much problem installing Joomla, Joomlart templates and many extensions from many other companies. For some reason, there is always one problem after another when I try to install iJoomla products, in this case, the iJoomla NewsPortal and iJoomla Magazine. The staff of iJoomla were kind enough to install it for me but they were less willing to tell me what went wrong with my installation or error. I do not learn anything that way, and I will always be dependent on iJoomla.

May 28, 2008 at 2:52 pm #250882Hi valic.
I forgot to add, some of the features that you might be using from iJoomla (particulary #3. 4 and 5 in first figure) might be done using the News modules of Gavick Pro, another template company that I use.
I might use the Gavick modules in the interim because I have iJoomla Magazine but not iJoomla NewsPortal and I do not want to buy another product from iJoomla until they have upgraded their products to be compatible with Joomla 1.5.x
As I stated in my first response to this thread, and to go back to the inquiry of the original post, neither JA Teline II or any of the Gavick Templates that I like have incorporated some features that i found interesting from iJoomla Magazine or NewsPortal.
I hope Joomlart staff will look at some of the modules of Gavick sometimes, and look closely also at some of the features of the iJoomla Magazine or NewsPortal — improve them and incorporate some of these features in the modules used in the existing and future versions JA Teline II. If Joomlart template innovators will do this, then the JA Teline series will remain a favorite among customers.
I am not being very critical but I consider that the JA Teline II direction is by far the most interesting new direction that Joomlart has done, since I joined.
