I am using Morganite. If i save an image at 100% quality and upload to magento the image appears on the site at that size.
If I save at 60% for example the image size is bigger on the site than the original.

I do not use compression in magento or in the cdn I am using.

    Hi Ian,

Where does the image appear with bigger size than original? Is that in our extensions or product list?

In category and product view. I think I know the answer though there was confusion because I use a cdn pica and an image view magic magnify. My images are correct size on the server but not on amazon s3. This only happened with compressed images. As a test I uploaded a 1600px image with no compression. In the cdn set it to compress the image and it worked. A 1.5mb image is now 600kb…. I know this is not a Joomlart issue but thanks for the reply. Do you know why?
ps I am using morgnite and intend to upgrade to 1.7 Is it better to upgrade the template as well as the installation

    HI idlea,

The newer version often contains new features and bug fixing, upgrading is also complicated process so that it depends on you 🙂
