December 7, 2008 at 8:47 pm #136035I am suddenly unable to upload images except by ftp. The upload screen in attached image 1 changes after less than one second to attached image 2 and clicking on “Browse files” does not work. This is true when working with the editor and when working with the media manager. Has anyone else had this problem?

Have you got FTP enabled in the Global Config in Admin?

December 8, 2008 at 9:11 am #281740Hi codger
The only reason I ask is that I was having trouble installing an extension last week. I’ve never had FTP active in the back end, but just out of interest I activiated it. Extension installed first attempt. Weird!
May be worth a try?
Cheers

December 8, 2008 at 10:58 am #281754Hello questbg,
That’s curious. I am unable to enable ftp because I am unable to access configuration.php . Using Filezilla I changed permissions to 777 and was still unable to access configuration.php . I then made the necessary edits directly on the server using Filezilla but the image upload still refuses to work.
It looks as though there is a fundamental problem of access, which may be causing the config problem and the image upload problem?
Regards

December 8, 2008 at 12:41 pm #281762Hi codger
This is really strange.
If you go to Global Configuration in the Joomla Admin panel. Can you set Enable FTP to ‘Yes’ and Save?

December 8, 2008 at 2:49 pm #281772Hi questbg,
Yes – it was just the ftp credentials that wouldn’t stick, although they are showing now that I have set them direct.
I don’t know whether this is related, but I have another problem in that I have to keep going in by ftp to set permissions for image resizing. Using Filezilla, I go to the images folder and set the check in FZ to recurse settings to all sub-directories and files, and all existing files get set. However, if I upload another image, or set a new size for an existing image, I have to go through the whole performance again.

December 20, 2008 at 11:41 pm #283656Hi,
I had the same problem and I never changed anything. I’m using IE7 and was uploading my imges through the editor but then it stopped working around 3 weeks agoor so. When I tried the same thing using Mozilla Firefox it was fine and worked. I’m wondering if IE made some “under-the-hood” changes that effected IE or maybe a Norton update or something?Hmmmm I wonder what happened :(( Maybe try it using Mozilla?
