Only posts that published a solution must be marked solved. If you communicated with the original poster, you should have requested him to post how he solved the problem.
Otherwise, customers like myself would be viewing a post which we woud think include a solution, but in this case, we would still be clueless as to how this was resolved.
Requesting for the admin, FTP and corresponding password must be the last recourse. For example, I helped people solve their problem just by understanding what they wanted to do.
If you view this
I think we resolved it even with my not requesting any Admin, FTP or password.

We must encourage people to solve the problem on their on so that they learn. Or, even if we help them, we should guide them — not do the physical work for them. It encourages dependence, and the customer does not learn.

June 20, 2008 at 6:41 am #254863Hi cgc0202
Thanks for your posts. I’m agree with you, but any problems we can’t fix if we haven’t info to access those sites to find bugs. I think you understand that thing, and I will publish all supports what I solve via PM as you said.
If you have any solved thread, and want to collect them as FAQ, you can send link for me, we will try to add them as sticky thread for everybody learn.
Regards

</blockquote>Hi Tung,
Please read the opinion of Menalto regarding this matter in this thread:
Really concerned about this: Should a Moderator keep answers private?
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=14183Quite often, the posted issues here are not really bug, there are many who just did not understand scripting. In this case, sometimes all that is needed is a link.
See how haing diagnose problems without requiring private information to be shared:
Solved ja.news problem??
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/import-jobs/that is true also with Menalto.
Requesting more private information must be the last resort.

Tung</blockquote>Hi Tung,
As a matter of policy, I encourage the people who asked the question to do this. Submit this to you or to the links I posted above. Here is the standard request form I post in SOLVED threads:
************************************************
(Title) Please include this in a summary thread of solved issues, questions or errorsHi (name of original poster here),
For better archival, I am creating a summary of solved postings so that it is easy for customers to locate them.. It beats scrolling scrolling through the Forum sections everytime we want to find if our question has been answered before. Sometimes the search option does not get all of them.
Can you please add the link to this post in the appropriate thread:
for Joomla 1.5x
Links to solved problems known bugs of Joomla 1.5x-JA Teline II
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/links-to-solved-problems-known-bugs-of-joomla-1-5x-ja-teline-ii/for Joomla 1.0x
Links to solved problems known bugs of Joomla 1.0x-JA Teline II
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/links-to-solved-problems-known-bugs-of-joomla-1-0x-ja-teline-ii/Since some threads could be very long, can you please provide the following:
1. Original post heading:
2. Link
3. Your name (username)
4. Summary:
a. Brief description of the problem or question and desired goal
b. Proposed solution to the problem that worked
c. Please provide an image capture of the before and after, if possible.Without any Manual, How To’s or FAQ, the database of these solved problems may go a long way to help each other.
Thanks,
Cornelio
************************************************
I usually customize the letter too, depending on the post, in order to explain what I was trying to do.
The goal of the letter and the project is not just to collect a bunch of SOLVED threads — I believe if the person clicks the prefix “SOLVED”, it provides you a complete list of “SOLVED” threads. What I wish to encourage is for those members who were helped by others to do their part too — including summarizing the solution to the problem, so that others may understand it better.
If you want, you can modify it a bit and use a similar form letter to request others to share it with the one you are creating.
If you read a few of my recent postings, because Joomlart is negligent in performing its duties and obligations to provide good Manuals, FAQs, solutions to discovered bugs, etc. — a number of customers, like myself have decided to band together to find solutions ourselves.
Cornelio
