    Hi,

I didn’t hit this error before until I use ja_mono template. When trying to compile LESS to CSS (complete) I get "Unexpected error. Please refresh the page try again later" error. I hit that on local server, solved it then when I move to production server it re-appeared. Here is some info:

    • Using Joomla! 3.4.8, JA Mono 1.0.1, T3 Framework 2.5.2
    • VPS Info: cPanel/WHM Centos 5.11, Apache 2.2.23, PHP 5.3.20, MySQL 5.1.73 (I know these are a bit old but complies with Joomla! 3.x and JA Mono requirements)
    • There are no LESS errors shown during LOCAL Development Mode ON or LOCAL Development Mode OFF
    • I deleted all other themes from the template except the one I use (to speed things, a suggestion I found on the web and solved the problem on local server)
    • Increased PHP Max Execution Time to 300 (first account level, then serverwide on my VPS – restarted the server)
    • Deleted the t3-assets folder and retried
    • Joomla SEF is OFF (also tried with SEF ON)
    • Compiled with Development Mode OFF (then ON)
    • All settings after the move are adapted (db info, tmp dir, log dir). I also used Akeeba Admin Tools to fix the permissions (after all trials)
    • With Development Mode ON, the site works just fine
    • I can compile on local server. I compiled and moved the files to production server but the site got messed up.
    • THe error comes out after about 40 seconds (no such settings in the system as far as I know)

On the other hand: In error log on the server I have the following line(s). I created a 500.shtml file but it seems not be used, also the error did not get repeated. ID=16 is my style’s id of course…

[Thu Jan 07 13:15:56 2016] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] File does not exist: /vhost/xxx/public_html/500.shtml, referer: http://xxx.org/cms/administrator/index.php?option=com_templates&view=style&layout=edit&id=16

I’m out of ideas and open to suggestions. I need to show the website design to the client today…

    Hi @Harikalar Kutusu,

Currently your PHP version is 5.3.20 which is out-dated, please contact your hosting provider and ask them to update your PHP version to at least 5.4.x and recheck.

That’s odd and not an easy task, I need to backup re-compile the server. It can interfere with some old Joomla! v1.5 installations 🙁

Are the minimum requirements on the following pages not correct?
    http://www.t3-framework.org/documentation/installation.html
    https://www.joomlart.com/documentation/joomla-templates/ja-mono

    Hi @Harikalar Kutusu,

First, please accept our apology for any inconvenience you got. The requirement should be at least as recommended in Joomla! Requirements page. Look like there’s a mistake in our documentation and I sent a report so they can update it to avoid any misunderstanding in the future.

Hi Adam, I’m already in the limits of the J 3 requirements. Am I missing something:

    https://www.joomla.org/about-joomla/technical-requirements.html

Anyway, of course you are right, I need to upgrade the server SW.

    Thanks…

    Hi @Harikalar Kutusu,

I checked your site but still see the PHP version is 5.3.20, please note that the recommended version as mentioned in Joomla! Requirements page is 5.5.x and as I asked above is at least 5.4.x instead.

    Hi,

I upgraded PHP to v5.5.31. As expected it caused multiple issues in J1.5 sites, I’m dealing with them.

But the main problem is CSS does not compile either.

    Can you please recheck?

    Hi @Harikalar Kutusu,

Could you please clarify a little bit about the problem so I can check ? Like which file / variable did you modify and what error did you get when hit button Compile LESS to CSS ?

    Hi Adam,

As I indicated in the original post (please read the it once again):

"When trying to compile LESS to CSS (complete) I get "Unexpected error. Please refresh the page try again later" error."

The website is new. I prepared it on local server in development mode. I created a new style and and every CSS change is in that style. I don’t recall any other hacks… I have a touch in HTML folder though (commented out one PHP ECHO to prevent repeated full article image)…

After some time moved to the production server but could not compile.

BTW I went ahead and upgraded the server to Apache 2.4.x, MySql 5.6.x in addition to PHP. No change…

    Thank you

I really don’t get it. It just compiled fine for one time.

I deleted the files and tried again I did not compile…

Disabled CSS/JS optimizations, same error accurred. Used "closure compiler" – no avail…

    "Theme only" works just fine..

After multiple trials I think I accumulated enough files under t3-assets. Also in the page source everything seems to be fine…

I tried compiling in several other K2.5 and J3 sites and they are compiling fine as previously…

But I don’t think this issue is solved, it will emerge. What do you suggest?

    Hi @Harikalar Kutusu,

I’ve just tried again and see the same result as you described. There’s no problem compiling the theme, only problem when compiling the whole template.

While doing the test, I see that the compile process still able to run for a while and it stopped exactly at 1 point after a period, so I guess there must be something with execution time. Is it possible that you can temporary increase max_execution_time in your server ?

@Harikalar Kutusu: I have made and downloaded a backup version directly on your site and test at my end and it’s working fine with action click LESS to CSS button

About the process click LESS to CSS button it needs to permission access t3-assets and templates/ja_mono/local folders, you can try to check the permission both folders above.

Besides that, I compared the configuration of your hosting with my end

Disabled Functions show_source, system, shell_exec, passthru, exec, popen, proc_open

You need to contact hosting provider and change them to

    Disabled Functions None
