June 15, 2008 at 9:01 am #129701Hi.
I’m sure this has been asked and answered many times, but …
Is there a ‘quick start’ guide to installing languages anywhere?
Do I need to install Joom!Fish first?
I’d really like a real ‘Dummy’s Guide’ type thing as I’m really new to this!!
Thanks

June 15, 2008 at 9:03 am #253636For Joomla itself:
Go to http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jtranslation/frs/ and find the language pack you need.
Download yourlanguageandjoomlaversion_admin.zip if you want to have your language in the admin part and yourlanguageandjoomlaversion_site.zip if you wanna have frontend language. Then you unzip the files and ftp them to your site.
admin.zip goes to /language
site.zip goes to /administrator/languageThen you have the option to choose language from the backend later on.
For use with Joomfish, i suggest you read about it over at their forum/site on how to use it.1 user says Thank You to Menalto for this useful post

June 15, 2008 at 9:10 am #253638Do you need a multi-language site or you just need it in a language different than English?
In the first case you will need Joom!Fish, while in the second, you will need a language pack only (which is needed in case 1 as well).
Language packs can be found at http://www.joomla-translations.orgПоздрави 😉

June 16, 2008 at 4:25 am #253828здравеи! 🙂
Thanks for the replies. I want the back end of the site to stay in English, but would like visitors to the site to be able to choose from a variety of languages.
So, I guess first thing is to install latest version of Joom!Fish and then start installing the language packs for the languages I require!!
Cool. I’ll give that a try today! 😎
Thanks again

June 16, 2008 at 4:49 am #253834PS. Forgot, one more question please…
Does this ‘translation’ happen automatically with articles, or, do I have to actually translate every article into required languages in Admin?

June 16, 2008 at 5:19 am #253836Thanks VisiGod. Wow, that sounds like a lot of work!
I was hoping for six/seven languages available. This means every article I publish then would need manually translating into each language.
😮I thought there would have been an ‘automatic’ translation option somewhere!!

June 16, 2008 at 5:38 am #253837Здрасти 😉
There are automatic translations but … is it worth? These generate hardly readable text.

June 16, 2008 at 7:37 am #253844I think its worth the job to translate all of the content manually instead of using a automatic translation for it.
It gives your site a more professional feeling by having it correct translated instead of some crappy non readable things.VisiGod FriendVisiGod

June 16, 2008 at 11:00 am #253881Agreed. Just tried it via Google Translate and BabelFish, both were not good translations.
Plus, I only tried English to French … if that’s bad, the rest must be worse!
😉
