How do I install the latest version of Teline without disturbing the database?
I tried to un install the old template and install the latest one and I lost all formating.
I could do it with the quickstart but I am afraid of loosing all articles, sections categories.
Not to talk about all the nodules, components, etc.

Any one knows how to do this?

    Hi bossep !
You uninstall teline ii template on your site then download latest teline ii template package and install it on your site .

    hello hainn84,
Yes I did that and got into trouble. It all came up as a long list without formating.
I do have it working…kind of just now.
Do you know if the removal of formating has been removed from 1.3.1?
Now all the h1 bold, etc is showing. on the Front Page. Not like it was before when it was removed.

A similar thing happened (see Note below) to me last night Bosse, so I remembered what happened to your site. I got all sort of weird additional items added to the JA News, including some categories.

I also had to unstall the JA News and reinstalled it. You know what? When I looked more closely at the JA News Template, the grouping by category

Group by Category or Section Category Section
    Category (Section) ID

was empty. It was not as bad as the one that happened in your website, but like yours, they were all over the place. When I restored the appropriate ordering of the sections, the layout was restored.

Of course, I am using Joomla 1.0.x. Can you provide a capture image of your JA News module, as seen from the Admin? The other thing, I wonder if you considered uploading the defaul CSS.

    Notes: What caused the problem

I was trying to integrate some innovative GavickPro modules into the JA Teline II, they installed alright, they even worked, but not the one I wanted most, the Gavick Image Slide show. It was working but it was not showing the appropriate format (it was not a stand alone component/module). So, I knew it did not have the appropriate css.

I was working on the other Gavick modules, but as I was adjusting the layout, the JA News module (only) just gave up and disappeared., all the rest were OK. Even after I uninstalled the Gavick modules and components, the JA News just did not show up, even if the module as viewed in the Admin was there.

I had no recourse but to uninstall it also, and then reinstall it before I could get it back. Then, I encountered a milder version of what happened to your site. Not sure now if that has anything to do with the JA News version itself.

    Whoa,
Sounds like we are both up to a wilde ride here!
I will see if I can do a capture here. My site looks pretty OK now but I lost all my costom stuff and it shows some errors. So when my nerves has got back in place I will start to look at it.
I am also looking with some slideshow modules but not found anything that works as I like it perhaps I should take a look at Gavick! I have noticed that some stuff chocks with JA but only the vid and tabs so far for me not the news part. I will do a vanilla istall on my dev box tonight and I should probably install both 1.0 and 1.5. Problem is that my dev server is Windowz and I dont have time to set up a Linux box just now.

Will be back with screen shot.

I learned my lesson in late 2005. One technician in site5.com made a mistake, and transferred the incorrect files to my main site — more than 60,000 static files. With that many files, I did not know which files was causing the problem. Now, I have redundant sites

As to the Gavick templates, they have no match to the JA Teline II, as yet. The modular style of Gavick has pros and cons. It adds versatility and specificity but would add complexity to the Magazine format. In contrast, the simpler JA News is easier, but then it has less flexibility in layout. Also, the ordering of the articles have to be the same for all because of where this feature was placed.

I always try to keep a backup locally but as I am new to plesk I havent figured it out there. I do a ftp download every now and then but then we have the problem with the datbase. Im from the windows world and there I use datareplication between my live site and my local server but I havent got the nerve to try it on mySql. It should be possible but I am a bit ower loaded wit linux at the moment.

PS a tale from the trenches: In 1996 I had managed to have a site with about 250 Mb of files (that was BIG then) and the fastest connection was 56K on a dedicated line! We had a link to a huge campain for one of the realety shows, survivor I think it was and I walked in to the office and fired up my computer. No site! I called my hosting provider and got the answer . Oups, we delited this by mistake! Please upload again and he hung up the phone. Well luckelly I had a local BU but it took me a lot of time and agonny so I have learned my leason….

Two things I noticed immediately, as I speculated in the other posts:

    In the JA News:

the columns is set as three (3) not two (2). Try two.

    For the option:

Show Category (Section) title Show Hide

You have “Hide” rather than Show.? (mine is Show)

Try changing them. These will not solve the bold letters within the article text, but the latter may be solved by going to the default CSS.

    In the Front Page;

Show Headline News title Show Hide
You have “Hide” rather than Show? (mine is Show)

Have you tried to do a page source to check the specific CSS features causing the bold sections?

I think one problem is the “long article” under “more” in Business section. You will find that there are html scripts that are broken also in that article.. Why not try deleting that.

    No big changes,
There is a problem reading the css I belive. I have noticed that if I put in a <h3></3> Tag the headline turns blue the same as the title. But if I do <span fontsize> I stays black. Meaning that it keeps the formating from some ware else.
I will try to figure this out on my test site.

I will check for the broken code. But did remove all of them and it is still screwed up.
I have the same problem with my test site:
    http://www.guatemala-times.com/jomtest/ pure vanilla JA QickInstall.

Rather very odd. You did not do any customization here yet?

I think this is more a case of Microsoft systems being non-conforming to what is considered standard by the open software community.

If you want, I can setup a subdomain in one of my cheap accounts. And, you can try installing one in a Linux environment.

It looks you are still installing the Joomla 1.5.3 version? When I installed my Joomla 1.5.3 version one thing was not green. I have not had a chance to ask my webhosting service, if ther is any incompatibility with the requirements for Joomla 1.5.3

Wny not set up a Joomla 1.0.15?
