Hi – New to Joomla. I installed Edenite without sample content and now I am looking for a tutorial on how to install modules and publish content for them. I plan on creating a blog on a sub page and want to publish recent posts on a module in right top column on home page. Sorry to be so new at this. I’ve tried to follow your Edenite handbook, but don’t see how to do this. I looked in parameters and don’t see a blogging module but maybe I don’t know where to look.
beta site:
http://www.16doors.com/index.php.
Would also like to know how to remove black line above main copy. This is because I am not publishing the title of the section.
Thanks

February 5, 2010 at 9:43 pm #331725Hello,
I know this isnt really your question, but as you say you are new to joomla i would really recommend that to start with you use a quickstart and install the sample content.
I personally found that it was a great way to see how everything works and where you can find things and how they will show on your site.
Even loads of users who do use joomla like to install sample data because its a really fast way to get started with a template.
With Regards,

Can I install over my existing Joomla? What should I do with the content I already have? Also — my webhost uses Fantastico to install Joomla and it installs itself automatically, no configuring from me. Thanks — your suggestion makes sense. I tried to do it this way to keep a clean install and not have to learn what to do about modules I uninstalled.bennitos Friendbennitos

February 5, 2010 at 10:01 pm #331727I agree you will have a nice clean start if you do it all manually. Only for starters its way way harder to find out what is what and how things work.
If you reinstall you will loose the content you have now.
Here is a great site with loads of joomla 1.5 video tutorials, im sure this will help you get started.

I can save my articles — aren’t that many and even take a screen shot of existing site to remind me of what I want. I have my logo back on my home PC..However I am not sure about how to install at my server because of the Fantastico method of install. Fantastico sets everything up for Joomla — I didn’t have to name databases or anything. So not sure how to upload a new version of template with all sample content included.
February 11, 2010 at 6:44 pm #332414I have installed the quickstart. After a few days, I think I would prefer to make the barebones version work, as I am not going to use so many of the quickstart functions. I won’t have a slideshow, won’t use drop down on my top menu, etc. etc.
I have both development versions up so I can learn from the quickstart one and perhaps copy coding over to the barebones one.
That said, I am still pretty confused. For example, On the home page, I would like to replace the top right module on the quickstart which currently has a list of staff members and email addresses with a module to contain blog posts. I can’t find a module on the quickstart module manager labled ‘right xhtml outline” Where is this content located? If I can find it in the admin area on quickstart, I may figure out how to customize it for my use.
Thanks
February 11, 2010 at 7:26 pm #332417Just found out how to do this — custom output. Thanks. Not sure if this is the best way, as it will require manual update whenever I want to change the blog post. Is there a better way?
