Hello,
I followed the JoomlArts YouTube tutorial on installing the template to local host and got as far as Step 4: Database Configuration at which point I got the message: “Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: 2”
Some instructions on the screen discuss this message when it involves using a hosting service, as follows: “Some web hosts require that you create the database before you install Joomla. If you get the message “Could not connect to the database”, check that your user name and password are correct. If you still get this message, check with your host to see if you need to create the database before installing Joomla.”
But this doesn’t seem to help me understand what to do in the case I’m trying to install the site on my laptop localhost.
Does anyone know how to address this problem?
Thank you,
Hank

On localhost you don’t need to create a new database, joomla can create it during installation process, but you need to know your db username and password to insert in the step 4 of the installation.
It should be username root without password, anyway you can retrieve database info accessing to the db configuration with phpmyadmin.

I’m using WAMP and see a link to phpmyadmin, but when I click on it it tries to start firefox, and then tells me I “don’t have permission to access /phpmyadmin/ on this server.” I don’t understand how to “access to the db configuration with phpmyadmin” and am not sure if I accessed this that I would be able to recognize what I’m looking for.
Is this really the only way to figure out my database name? And if so, could you be more specific in your description of how I do this? How do I get permission on my own computer to access /phpmyadmin/ ? And then what?
I’m trying to understand why the process for installing joomla and the template on my laptop asks me for information I don’t have? Something doesn’t seem right about this. If you happen to know of a video tutorial specifically for installing quickstart template files onto a desktop localhost maybe that would explain the process to me. I have been unable to find such a video.
Thank you for your help,
Hank

February 21, 2012 at 4:19 am #439173You may need to see if PHP is running as a service in windows. it may be disabled . best way I find is to download the latest wampserver here and reinstall after removing the old installation. Give that a go then get back to me, I use wampserver 64 bit without a lot of dramas on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
