Hi. We are looking into creating a intranet system for a client.
Do you know of or would recommend any Templates or ready to go plugins/components etc. for Joomla for that purpose?

Regarding intranet system, I’d recommend you go for a responsive template with corporate layout like our new template Uber , or JA Biz, or JA Beranis .

You’ll need some basic extensions for staff management, calendar, booking, document management, gallery, project management, form builder with professional features, comments. You will also need a search module, which is critical to intranet success, especially if in database is a lot of information. You can browse for those extensions HERE.

I think JA Biz will be a good choice for corporate Intranet net. Looks nice and direct to the point.
