The forum sarch doesn’t apper to work. If I enter somethign like ‘K2’ it returns no search results, whereas I know there are a number if threads / posts with K2 in the title.
Am I doing somethign wrong?

February 5, 2011 at 8:40 pm #375222Yes and No, the search engine in vBulliten has limitations making results a little poor. Better to use Google.
February 11, 2011 at 1:43 pm #376207Hi Phil
Appreciate the response but the search results are more than a little poor, it’s completely unusable i.e. if I put in exact phrases that appear in thread titles, they don’t show up. Searching via Google doesn’t work any better.
Don’t wish to grumble but that means for any support I have 2 options, 1 search through 30+ pages of posts each time I want to find similar posts or post a new thread each time and await an answer = bloated forum plus potential response delay. Having already gone through every page of the forum once I noticed there were at leasts 15 threads one issue. I know that no matter how good the search is people will duplicate post but surely if people are to benefit / rely heavily on community support, the search functionality is critical. Clearly you would also benefit greatly from not having to respond to the same posts each time to!
I hope this can be looked at and would be interested if you or others have further tips on getting better search results.
Note if I start creating a new thread, the similar posts that are shown prior to adding the new thread appear to have better search results.
Off to start a new thread now 🙂

February 11, 2011 at 2:33 pm #376216There really is nothing we can do about it. From the point of view of Google how can we improve their search engine? As for the search engine here that is from the forum software JA use, vBulliten. Short of re-writing vB there is very little JA can do.

February 11, 2011 at 2:36 pm #376217If memory serves, the forum search requires a minimum of three letter words.
k2 being two letters wouldn’t make the cut.
This has been a pet peeve of mine as well.:)February 11, 2011 at 3:19 pm #376224@phill luckhurst 220839 wrote:
There really is nothing we can do about it. I wasn’t suggesting that you could do anything about Google, I was just trying that as an alternative as the forum search doesn’t work.
My other point was though that the similar threads function that pops ups when you create a new posts appears to deliver far better search results than the forum search.
If it can’t be fixed it can’t be fixed but I was just raising it as a big issue as it would help both customers and moderators. I’ll get back in my box now.
@jbrett -it seems to be an issue when I’ve searched on longer threads as well but thanks for the tip.
