With the quick and overwhelming support from absolutely no one we solved the issue on our own. We will live with the fact that support is benign at best and struggle with the themes limited capabilities. Once bitten… moving on…

No matter what I do, the Nex ‘mod_janews_featured’ module in position sl1-1 throws the entire front page layout into conniptions. Choosing more than one category causes fatal errors or blank screens. Adding any single content item distorts the layout. I’ve scoured the forum for answers to no avail. Clean install Joomla! 2.5 with migrated article content from 1.5 site. Added Nex Template and framework plugin after migration. Help… It may well be a stupid user error and an easy fix.

Update: Right module position, no matter what, is ending up under content-mass-top, (which will only allow 3 categories — any more categories as in the sample layout blows the entire template into convulsions) The JNews pro module seems to be the culprit in screwing up the right module position. In fact almost all the modules included with the purchased template seem to not work as advertised. The slider and sticker work okay though. We suspect that NEX coding for Joomla! 2.5 has not been totally vetted. Little consolation. The template is pretty useless as it stands.
