January 27, 2009 at 2:48 pm #137558Since some time, I experience nearly every day some strong performance issues with the site here. Mostly it is just for some moment, some pages load slower than usual but today just some moments ago, and this happens maybe every week once, I get the message from my browser that…
This webpage is not available.
The webpage at http://www.joomlart.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 104 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED): The attempt to connect to the server failed.
Any other site is still loading as usual, so no issue on my side. In FF I get this page with no CSS Stylesheets, a simple plain html look. Today it was or is that way, that it takes more than 90 seconds for any page to load, now that it suddenly works again after the site was down for some while completely. Some posts I posted were not posted even after several minutes and hitting the submit button twice, while the browsers already show “waiting for http://www.joomlart.com“.
I mention this for the case that other users also experience this and maybe the JA Staff is not aware of it, I do not know. So this is simply said a note that here on the user side the Homepage loads often slow and sometimes even very very slow. While for the rest of the time, the pages load very fast.
Thanks for your attention!:)

January 27, 2009 at 10:22 pm #288532It’s running fast for me right now but not normally. This is the first time it has been fast in weeks! It is usually so slow I get aggravated and close the whole window. I wait awhile then come back with no issues.

January 28, 2009 at 1:44 pm #288655Hello,
I have had a problem loading the website in Google Chrome. But other than that the site works quite good in FF2, FF3, Opera and IE8.
Regards,
Mihir.
PS: i checked the website in all those browsers just to check, when the site was having a trouble.wooohanetworks Friendwooohanetworks

January 28, 2009 at 2:02 pm #288661Here it is the case that the site usually loads good but sometimes not at all. Seems to be something like a peak that builds up and on top of it the servers require either more and more memory on the client side, the browsers load and load and sometimes one even hears how the site sucks the virtual memory from the harddisk, or the connection fails completely.
As to the time shortly before I posted this thread, the site was down completely. Testing it like 10 minutes later where the site was a bit loading again in Chrome, in FF3 the Startpage came up in plain html and still took minutes to load a single page. Posting posts also took minutes until the post finally go through.
Right now the same with posting again, I already closed the browser and the post was posted though, yet still loading when I closed the browser. The site requires a lot of user recourses what you can hear when your hds suddenly begin to work although normally nothing is done but posting a simple message.

January 28, 2009 at 8:24 pm #288722Same here…loads fast, no lag.
HOWEVER…I seem to be “Timing Out” much more quickly.
I’ll be finishing up a Forum answer and I go to hit “SAVE” and find out I’ve been logged off and have to log back in….losing the answer in the process. ARGH! 😀

How long and how often are you actually online at Joomlart.com, continuously hours after hours or do you login, give some posts, logout again, do some other work, login again and so on? I see that the ones that have these issues are mostly those that spend a lot of time on the row here. As by now, right now, current minute, having been offline for 2 hours, just logged in again, I have no issues to complain about either. May be something in relation to that, who knows.
January 29, 2009 at 5:59 pm #288837Possibly last 5 days at least for me have been real bad, probably been unable to connect for at least 3 hours a day, I live in UK but cannot see that being a problem. I have been a member for aroind 2 weeks, and seems rarely I can ever get on the server.

February 17, 2009 at 6:28 am #291902Joomlart.com should be hosted with Rochen, it looks that way…this post was started by me in regards this a post in this thread, [ http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/youtube-social-feed-2/ ] here it goes:
I do not know, from what I see is Rochen not the best host out there, only because Joomla.org is hosted by them. When you look at some of the template clubs, they all share the same host and should be Rochenhost. Now, Joomlart.com is one site that has a steadily high frequency of visitors and is down very often. As today, I could not access the site for several hours, no problem on my site, the server is simply weak.
There is the issue that those types of “indpendent hosts” that are those perfect european hosts like Strato, they still and probably will forever tell customers something about server uptime. They created this thing and tell people they have a 99,9% server uptime…
Now look at those hosts where people never have to complain about sites loading slow etc. on their homepages, in their description of packages whatsoever, there is nothing about uptime in any corner, may it be so small, that refers to some uptime guarantee, as they know and act the way, that a server has to be up all the time, no compromises or excuses those downtimes come from this and that and ddos and whatever issues those type of hosts who do not have a usual 100% uptime come a client with even in their ads and so on.
So, what does the perfect host does better, they have a better infrastructure, they have all data twice in two secret locations, they have all data on mirror server, if one seems to go slow, the other one comes in, they built routines in their system that even avoid a downtime upfront. Also when the others have mirror servers, they must make something different than the better ones, and what this is, should be related to the size of the business.
Now when you have a site like this one here or a larger shop, not just a simple shop that requires no server recourses like the real good ones, good as they have the mass appeal and a loaded with many multimedia application etc. etc., and do not use the regular hosting packages, have a vserver you will simply need to get a dedicated one, as you require more server power for your own site and shared hosting is not the way to go with, if with Rochenhost, GoDaddy.com, Strato or any other host out there but still there people have problems when they use those independet hosts that differ in comparison to the major players not only due to their 99,9% server uptime guarantee, because as soon you have a dedicated server and the site is not working out well, the fault must be on that their other equipment is not the best, they do not have a mirror data center for their dedicated servers too and so on…
I had this issue in mind for a long time and today read this article, and most important is this part besides the main topic of the terms of the contract, read this:
<blockquote>I note your reason for wishing to cancel your account with us results from your impression that the server providing your service failed to perform and had excessive downtime. We would dispute this. Our logs for the server show the following:
24 Feb 2002. 20:29 GMT. – Server restarted. This was due to the
installation of Linux PAM resource limiting software – downtime 5
minutes28 Feb 2002. 06:16 GMT. – Bogus DNS Issue – downtime 13 minutes
7 Mar 2002. 01:35 GMT. – Server rebooted, high loads – downtime 12 minutes
8 Mar 2002. 09:53 GMT. – Kernel upgrades – downtime 15 minutes
21 Mar 2002. 11:23 GMT. – Reboot, high loads. Site running banned script – 30 minutes
Since you signed up on the 18th of February the servers have had a total downtime of 75 minutes. This gives server uptime of 99.85%. We believe this provides an excellent level of service.</blockquote>
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/archive/index.php/t-41826.html
It shows that those hosts have a simply different way of seeing what good service is, nothing else and from that information one can guess and even see with certainty what happens inside the server when Joomlart.com is down again for some time, some minutes, or even hours. And it seems the server randomly tries to relocate recourses based on the geographic location of client requests, meaning, to avoid that the system breaks completely, some people will get those errors and some, in regions where a low frequency of requests come from may never experience any issues with the site performance. This way, the server will stay up for one side, the other side can’t access during this period. This is how it seems to be…not really 😎

February 17, 2009 at 6:38 am #291907I think if you look at the forum posts “Today’s Posts” you will see a gap of many hours that the forums were down today (for me that is Feb 16). Yesterday… (for me that was Feb 15)… the demos and downloads were down for many hours.
I believe the reason I see this is because of my timezone. The times when I notice this are usually late evening on the east coast (US) which would be the wee hours of the morning in Europe. I don’t think much of it because since I am assuming this site is based in UK, it would seem a logical time for server and site maintenance.
On the other hand, if it hasn’t been standard maintenance that has been causing this downtime, then possibly JA needs to look into what is going on with their server during these times. Maybe there is a problem they are unaware of since it would have been the “wee hours” their local time if they are indeed based in UK.
Below is the time gap I am mentioned above. As you can see, there were 6 1/2 hrs with no posts logged. Forums were down. I gave up and left so I don’t know if anything else was down or just the forums.
