I like ja-catslwi, but the problem I have is that I wan’t the function of ja-catslwi (where you rollover an image on the front page and it shows text), however I don’t like that it forces you (like many JA templates) to have the image in the article.

Is there a way to have the image on the front page, but not show up in the article? Sometimes I just like the way the home page elements work, but having that image in the article messes up the look of my article.

    I hope this makes sense.

I had the same problem. What I did to get around it was adjust the code of jacatslwi to always pick the first image in an article which was always before the readmore. When you go to your main article make sure you do not show intro text and you will not see that image from the homepage

The following thread shows how to adjust the code to force the image before the readmore to be used.

Thank you for responding. I don’t think it’s necessary to login, I just want to know if it’s possible. I just want to have the benefit of the way the links on the homepage of the JA_Sulfur template work (where the text shows over the image of the three boxes) but don’t want to have to have the image in the article.

Essentially I just want standalone links just like the template, but want them to work like they do on the homepage so that I can link them to whatever article I want.

The problem is that I like the way it works on the homepage, but I don’t want those images in my articles.

JACATSIWI seems like it will only work if you have the image in the article so I am forced to have it in the article. However I want to be able to format my articles the way I want to – without the image used by jacatsiwi.

    I hope this makes sense.

Does my above suggestion not work for you?

    Here I have implemented similar.

I guess the next question would be – is there anyway to force the images on the home page to a link of your choice?

Now that you’ve shown how to get rid of the image, is it possible to have the link go wherever I want it? As you can see, I am trying to get the benefit of the way it works on the home page with the links going to where I want them rather than to the article it’s attached to. If not, no big deal. I just thought I’d asked.

I guess I wish I could find something that works like jacatsiwi on the homepage where text hovers over the image on rollover, but gives me the freedom of where the link goes to.

I am confused. Doesn’t it pick the first image anyway. I added the “U” at the end of line 23 of the helper file and that didn’t do anything. Could you elaborate on what you did? It isn’t working for me.

I’m still looking for a solution. by adding “U” did not solve the image not displaying. Any other solution, please advise.

Adding the U just forces the first image to be picked. If you have that image before a readmore link in your article then on the article make sure “show intro text” is set to no then the image will not display.

Ok, I got what you are saying howeve, for simplicity I just have one picture then two words. Noting special just simple article and still the image is not displaying.

    thanks for replay.

I also have the same problem – I have added the U to helper.php but the image is still not showing.

    Thanks

I may have found a solution that fixed it for me. According to the original installation the mod_catslwi is point to a category, which has 3 articles. Now what I did is created another category with 3 new articles with pictures. Then I went back to the mod_catslwi settings page, I pointed to the new category that I have created and the pictures appear.

Now the difference is that my new 3 articles, I only have an image and few words with no read more function. According to others when you add the read more function the image disappears. I can’t confirm this yet. I have to do more digging to see.

hope this helps others with similar issues.
