I need to customised the css for JA Community — e.g. change some colors, add a background image. What is the recommended way of dealing with overrides with this template so I don’t cripple the site from future updates?

    Thanks,
    Geoff

    Hi

The only way to obtain what you need is to create your custom theme with your Css files and your images, then make a new profile and assign your theme at this new profile

Just to add to the advice/recommendation pavit provided above – which is correct . . .
Here are a number of resources you can read and review concerning layout overrides . . .

How do I change the layout of the “intro text” so that the image sits above the text, rather than on the left? In fact, I want to use this in both ways – sometimes above, sometimes to the left. Can I set a class to handle this differently? I’ll also need to be able to resize the image accordingly.

    Thanks,
    Geoff

    Hi geoffr,

Could you send me url of site you’re working on? and a snapshot of how you want it display, it’s easier to help.

Sure, here is a mockup image showing how I’d like to display the images at the top of the intro text in the Category Blog layout. The Leading article is good, it’s the ones within the circle I’d like this way.

BTW, I have created a new theme.

    Thanks,
    Geoff

    Hi,

So you should override the article in com_content for template, it is located in:

    templatesyour_default_template_namehtmlcom_contentarticledefault.php
If in this template folder, this file does not exist, you can copy from component/com_content folder
Within default.php file, you find the code path that display the images and move it to above position of code display into text.
