August 31, 2011 at 12:36 pm #409800Hi philip,
I had the same issue with the JA community template update. The hangup occurred because the template zip file was read only.
Try changing your problem file to read and write, upload that file, and try your update again…intrigue

August 31, 2011 at 12:40 pm #409802As intrigue kindly answered, this is almost certainly a permissions problem. When the script is running it needs to download some files from the JA server and then write them to the template directory. For many different reasons there may be some files that the script cannot write to. Instead of throwing up an error message the script just seems to stop (something I will ask the devs to investigate) and will not go any further.
To fix simply make sure all the files and folders in your templates folder are writable by the system.

August 31, 2011 at 4:20 pm #409865Try changing the permissions as suggested. While you may not have changed them there are reasons why they may have changed. When you save configuration for example in the template manager the files will be belong to one group on the server. If any files have been edited via ftp they may belong to another group. If you have root access then the chown command can be used to sort that. If not then you may have to chmod the permissions or speak to your host.

August 31, 2011 at 8:56 pm #409921That is just one folder. There are files and folders within that may have different permission or the correct permissions and incorrect ownership. Changing the ownership would probably be your best bet but if you do not have root access then your host would be the best person to advise.
Linux file permissions can be a little complicated. If you google them you will get a deeper explanation of how they work. In this case I am betting that the files are owned by the ftp user on your server level. Depending on how your server is setup a different user will be used when a script runs on the server. If the server user does not have permission to write to files uploaded by the ftp user then you will begin to understand the problem. Any good host can fix this in seconds.
You could overwrite all the template files with the latest version but you would looses any changes you may have already made and would have to re-apply them. I would go the asking the webhost route. Feel free to refer them to this thread to help you explain the problem.

August 31, 2011 at 10:12 pm #409926Hi
thank you for your advise, but the ownership is mine and the ftp account, and the hosting package all mine, just let me give you exxample: i am using akeepa backup and i can see the permesions on each folder was set up in the correct way and i am the sever user have the permession to write to file, so where we go from here as i spoke to hosting company which i have been with them for 6 years and they helpfull the explain to me this with JA template and component manager upgrade. You tell me where to go form here as i have 5 site with no such issue as this one in JA templates!I went to look into the JA coomunity plus template in here and here is the result just to make you belive there is somthing wrong here and here is the link when for example you try to download the template manuly update:
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=20413
and in the screen shot you will see is not community plus, it is JA Minisite J17

August 31, 2011 at 11:19 pm #409935Here is the download for manually updating http://www.joomlart.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=20370
I am still 100% sure the problem you are experiencing is an issue with file permissions on a server level. If you can give me full access I am sure I can sort that out. Do you have root access? The ability to chown files as well as chmod files? If so send me and admin account. ftp account and and account for whatever system you use to connect to your root access. Send this via PM but please also include a link to this thread in your PM.
