There are 2 issues I’m having and they may be related.

1. When I click on the featured star from the article manger to make the article featured I get this message – Fatal error: Call to undefined method ContentModelArticle::featured() in /home/democal/public_html/jupgrade/administrator/components/com_content/controllers/articles.php on line 81, same thing happens if I try to check the article + the featured icon in the top nav area. I can however, set it from inside the article.

2. When a link is clicked from the frontpage news area the links don’t open a new page they open the article in a box on the home page.
Please let me know how to fix these issues.

Not sure about the featured articles issue but it seems a core Joomla issue. I could not find any forum talking about the same issue, so I would suggest you to post it on Joomla Forums to get some info about it.

To solve the second issue, here is what you need to do:

1. Go to Menu manger and create a new menu container like Main menu, and name it say Unpublished Menu.
2. Then create a category blog / category list type of menu item in the Unpublished menu for the same category, from which JA News Frontpage is set to display articles.
3. Refresh Home page from frontend and check if clicking on any of the articles in JA News Frontpage opens the news in a new page.

Thank you for the suggestion. I gave it a try but this does not solve the linking issue.
