Problem – JA Header Module image order

    ——————————————————————————–

    Hi to everybody!

I have a big problem with JA Header Module, that make me crazy… problem is: how I can set order of displayed images?

I want display images in a right order (say image01, image02, image02, and so on…) to build a structured message along images…

I’m using JA-Xenia template and i spent long time to find a solution, but JA Header Module seems to pick images with unpredictable order. Why?

    a) Order parameter is set to “sequential”
    b) file names are: “banner_1.jpg, banner_2.jpg, banner_3.jpg,…., banner_6jpg”

I tried to change file-names, but nothing seems to work… somebody can help me???
(I spent a lot of time to create beautiful image and now I cannot use them… )

thanks, Giulio Buccini (Rome – Italy)

    Hi,

    Hello Giulio,

Yes, your website, so we can see it live and can see the problem ourselves… 🙂

    Ok. I understand… : )

    this is the URL:

    http://www.tecnate.com/

as you can see, the header is located on the home page only.

Just a minute ago I have renamed all 6 images to “a.jpg”, “b.jpg”,…,”f.jpg”; but it still don’t works… and I’m sure that what I see on the home page is not the right image order.

    for example:
image with cat is the last one, and is named “f.jpg” in “my /templates/ja_xenia/images/header” directory
image with message “design your XML docs” is the first one and is named “a.jpg” in above directory

    have you any idea?

Its hard from your description to see what one is what 🙂
I suggest you make some blank images and on them mark them as IMAGE 1, IMAGE 2 etc then use them and see what order they are in it appears as far as I can tell they are displaying in sequence
BTW on one image you spelt “Without” wrongly

Ok i prepare 6 image marked as you suggested, give me 10-15 minutes…

Oh! thanks for correction, should be “without” not “whitout”… ooops!

goodnight and many thanks for you time!
In Italy it’s day but probably it’s very late for you…

    but I think I solved the mystery…

if I name images like this

    image01.jpg
    image02.jpg
    image03.jpg
    image04.jpg
    image05.jpg
    image06.jpg

it works! but if I change name like this:

    banner_A_1.jpg
    banner_A_2.jpg
    banner_A_3.jpg
    banner_A_4.jpg
    banner_A_5.jpg
    banner_A_6.jpg

it pick up image in a random-like manner… curious… maybe this depends on name assigned… maybe i must terminate name with a numbering suffix… I don’t know.
For me this is solution: I will call all image something like “imageXX.jpg”.
I think name with character like “underscore” is disturbing JA Header, as well as name without some numbering suffix (like “a,jpg, b,jpg”).
I don’t know reason of this behaviour… if you discover… tell the secret to me.

    again goodnight.

I was just a bit late for replying, see that it is now solved. Great. Big up to ShannyBoy for fixing it.

Yes, it seems to be something with naming images with underscore. I have had the same problem once with regular flash files as well. Never figured out what the reason was, just changed it and it worked. 🙂

I know it’s very late… (not in Italy)
maybe this post is for tomorrow…
    but…
    I was wrong…
still not working… I’m close to became really really crazy…

I have renamed my “official” header images with same name of “test” images and… strange behaviour is returned back!
(test image is a simply white image with a sentence”this is imageXX.jpg” where XX goes from “01” to “06”)
So I put again test images in /templates/ja_xenia/images/header directory EXACTLY as I done previously:

    image01.jpg
    image02.jpg
    image03.jpg
    image04.jpg
    image05.jpg
    image06.jpg

and now… doesn’t work! Why? 15 minutes ago test images was working perfectly! Really! I saw that with my eyes! But now not working again… How can it be?
I tried to “suspend” module and after “publish” again, but not result.
I tried to clean cahe of my browser.
I tried to use second PC in my office…
    I tried everything…

now image display order is 1,4,2,3,5,6
everybody can go to http://www.tecnate.com and see these funny (!?) situation…
seems like I was lucky 15 minutes ago and now I’m not more.

    Again…. can somebody help me?

Yes, seems to be a bit off still. Are you sure you named them image01 and not image1 for example? Not that I think that should matter but….

I would have had to dig deeper into this in order to see what could be causing this, unfortunately I do not have the time right now. Sorry. Hope someone else can assist you on this matter.

yes, I checked image name and right matching with image contents (for example image03.jpg contains sentence “this is image03.jpg”).

I hope I will find someone that can help me…

    thanks, Giulio.

I think I have solved problem of image picking order…
    but…
maybe this is not the most elegant way to do this… but it works! (now I’m sure).

For some strange reason JA Header module goes in panic when you add more than one image at time in the /templates/ja_xenia/images/header directory.
strange? Yes it is. So, this what I have done using an FTP file manager:

    1) I have selected and removed all existing images.
    2) I have named all image to obtain desired order-by-name ( for example “image01.jpg”, “image02.jpg”,…)
    2) I have added first image (named “image01.jpg”)
    3) wait 1-2 seconds
    4) I have added second image (“image02.jpg”)
    5) wait 1-2 seconds
    6)…
    7) after I have added all images one-by-one in the right order …. ALL WORKS!

don’t ask me why, but I have repeated this procedure many times and all times this procedure works!
If you try to add a grup of file in “one-shot” file-transfer you can be sure that JA Header module will go in panic and will pick images in strange order. Seems that JA Module cannot rapidly provide alignment between directory contents and private list of file.

So this is the secret: add images always one-by-one and follow naming order on your filesystem.

I hope my hint can be useful for somebody.

It sounds unusual, I have always batch uploaded my images without problems , however its good that you now have them rotating in proper order and can move on to completeing your site without the worries
    Have a great day
