I bought an extension club membership so that I could compare the JA Highslide module and plugin with other implementations.

Here are my observations for what they are worth.

JA Highslide allows you to create a picture gallery of thumbnails, but you have to list each of the images within the plugin code on your page. It can’t do a thumbnail gallery of all pictures in a folder.

If you use the module and plugin on the same page they interfere with each other and you end up with thumbnails from one within the popup from the other.

If you use multiple occurrences of the plugin on a single page they interfere with each other. In particular the Next and Previous links dont work properly.

The Iframe, Ajax and Content Item options work very nicely. I havent found a better way to popup a content item with highslide.

I cant get the Module option to work – possibly because of other instances on the same page.

Summary – It is promising but not yet worth paying for.
There are free Highslide implementations which are at least as effective.

I’m not sure about other version but the version of Highslide in the Trona template does allow you to point to an image folder.

    Mind you… I haven’t tested it.

You are at least wrong with your statement that there are any “free JS Highslide implementations” out there. Yet, some are free for you to download but any of those you are only allowed to use on non commercial homepages. As I suppose you look for a commercial use of Highslide than you will have to go to http://www.highslide.com and purchase a license from the developers of Highslide directly. The plugins out there are also always offered by the third party developers of the plugin as those, free to access but the use not without complying to the terms and conditions of JS Highslide. They only did the plugins to work in Joomla. 😉

OMG! Yet again you take a thread off topic and yet again the information you post is inaccurate.

JCE Utilities[/url] does exactly the same as highslide and is FREE.

You are right to mention licensing issues wooohanetworks.

A little quote from the javascript supplied with JA Highslide:

    Name: Highslide JS
    Version: 4.0.5 (August 30 2008)
    Author: Torstein Hønsi
    Support: http://highslide.com/support

    Licence:
Highslide JS is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 2.5
    License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.5/).

I believe that implies that the JA Highslide must not be used on commercial sites!

Maybe the administrators can clarify this?

Go to highslide.com and ask some users of highslide, they will tell you that only the use on a non commercial site is legal without licensing the product. If JA has paid the license that allows users to use it on commercial sites as the module is not for free, is a question.

Nevertheless, I know a lot of people like the daring ones in this threat may also use any copyrighted material, may alter brand logos however they want, just because they have the opinion the companies will never recognize it.

I know, a lot do not do business and lack the education about the ruling factor of business, called legal issues, which is a prominent reason to slander nonsense.

    With best regards

I know, a lot do not do business and lack the education about the ruling factor of business, called legal issues, which is a prominent reason to slander nonsense.

I own 2 small companies and am a shareholder in a large company. One of the companies I own promotes goods exclusively from a well known international brand. I know all about the legalities of running a business.

I’m not arguing about the license. I agree with you regarding the Highslide license and the original license can be found, intact, in the header of the .js script downloaded from Joomlart, and yes, it is not for commercial use.

But you have to admit… copyright and the legality of templates and sites is your ‘area of expertise’ shall we say, and it is what you talk about most. You have turned several threads into legal discussions that were not legal discussions to begin with, including this one, so I thought that it was funny when the OP said you were right to mention it… as if you’d forget :).

    Peace!

I do hope I am not one of the “daring ones in this threat” that you suggest make casual use of other peoples copyrighted material woohanetworks

i agree with scotty and asi’ve said previously, it’s best to answer the question at hand – woohanetworks

although I personally like it and appreciate it when everyone in the community helps out – including yourself who takes time out of your life to help others, it’s best to keep answers simple and concise so the questionee can understand your answer and not get confused by it.
