August 6, 2011 at 8:23 am #167131Hi guys,
Can you tell me the plan for Job Board and the new Joomla versions?
I found the thread below earlier but it was not that clear to what and most importantly when you are releasing this compnent for Joomla 1.7?
I am looking to purchase right now, but obviously want to install on 1.7 as 1.6 seems to have passed

Thanks Paul

August 8, 2011 at 3:35 am #404862Hi paul,
JobBoard is available for Joomla 1.5 only. Upgrade to J 1.7 will have to wait. As jobBoard is a big component, we would be taking it up once we are done with other Templates and extensions.
Joomla 1.5 have active live till April 2012 and joomla 1.7 is active till Jan 2012.

August 8, 2011 at 4:07 pm #404965Hi drarvindc
Thanks for the reply,
Guessed it would be a while, just dont want to build a big site then have to be considering migrating it to a new joomla in a years time with the possibility Of losing users and content.
Good luck with the changes team JA

August 8, 2011 at 4:19 pm #404968Hey Paul:
While it may be true that someday you probably should eventually migrate to an updated Joomla version . . . I honestly don’t believe that the J1.6x-J1.7x series of upgrades are the ones within which to do it. Honestly … unless J1.8 is going to be as significant as the J1.5 release (which has yet to be seen) and the component developers will be pro-actively updating their products for and in anticipation of such … then I am not seeing any practical reason to upgrade/migrate to the “newest shiny version” of Joomla until such time as a truly SIGNIFICANT and PLANNED LONG LIFE version is released (i.e. perhaps J2.0).
Why do I say this? … I try to explain my own linear logic rationale here –> http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/the-smart-sensible-way-to-upgrade/#post-404510
Bottom line . . . if it isn’t broken and it’s working for you now, there’s no “sky is falling” reason/need to “fix” it at this time.

Makes me feel at ease, for most Joomla users all this version news and upgrades does make you rethink certain plans!!
It is good to hear and read comments to re assure you are doing the right thing,
Thanks again, will make that purchase soon and go ahead with the plan of action

</blockquote>You absolutely SHOULD feel at ease in our decision. J1.5 remains a VERY robust and absolutely functional version – especially with the JA T3 framework enhancements. I have looked through both J1.6x and J1.7x and, to be perfectly honest, I do not see any significant upgrade – functional or otherwise – that would/should give rise to anyone to feel they so desperately “need” to upgrade . . . especially those whose websites’ functional dynamics rely on components that are not yet (and don’t have any conceived plan for) upgrade.compatibility with J1.6+.
Like I say in my other post (linked above), it’s somewhat natural to want the “latest and greatest” … but it’s not always the sensible/practical thing to do. (Not unlike the “I gotta have it or my world will crumble” clowns who camp out for DAYS just so they can be one of the FIRST to get the new iPhone or one of the FIRST to see the last “Harry Potter” movie. 😉
(for cool concert tickets, I can understand . . . but an iPhone? – gimmie a break) :p

September 8, 2011 at 2:46 pm #411483Hi Tom,
I was reading your post and do quite agree – however the point is if selling a customer right now the “Job Board” it will be tricky to tell him at the begining of next year that we need to make an major update because ending of long term support for J1.5. The problem I see is that the update procedure from 1.5 to 1.6/7 is quite not existing. We were trying to migrate a couple of sites to 1.6/7 (jupgrade) and that was not a cake …
I am affraid that updating a website with an big extension like job board will be quite time consuming.
So at the moment for us there is kind of a sales lack because of mentioned versioning problems.
From the previous statements I would get the idea that there will be no JobBoard compatibility for J1.6/7 before end of this / begining of next year – maybe JA will probably go directly to J1.8/2.5 and skip the J1.6/7…
Can you clarify that a bit?
Greetings from Munich.

September 8, 2011 at 3:38 pm #411494Hi Frank,
Agree with what your saying, im no big cog in a developing companies wheel, but just wanted to know where i stood.
Not about wanting lastest of everything, just do not want to launch a site that in a year may need a complete revamp as a new version of a component is 10 times better or something. What I might do is install the current version on 1.5 in a directory, then when a new versions come into play in a years time gives me scope to drop in the latest in the main root, maybe old fashioned but will suit me!

September 27, 2011 at 7:13 pm #415356Back to the point of Jobboard, looking to purchase in the next 2 weeks, just need clarification.
1 – When is version v 1.5.3 coming out? is it an easy upgrade?
2 – The 1.7+ versions you are planning, will it be easy to upgrade the employers and employees information into the new version?
3 – Is there a discount available on the current version?Appreciate the comments I know you are busy

I do know that, in addition to continuing template/theme development and bug-issue-fixing, our JA Development Team continues to work on updating JA Job Board as much as possible within their very busy schedule and workload. While there is no set prognosis for an update release date, my post #4 above still holds true.
Appreciate your patience and understanding.

While we cannot provide a definitive date specific or timeframe, I have it on fairly good authority that our JA Devs are intensely working on finishing up/testing the update. When it is ready for release, an announcement will definitely be posted within our UPDATES[/url] section. -
