July 21, 2009 at 6:00 pm #142897I am not as illiterate as I was when I joined JA but although I have a developer account, a developer/coder I’m not.
Although a work in progress still (a few minor issues to get resolved yet), I like what I’ve done with JA Larix to build my sister a floral website.
Thanks to Joomla and JA, she’s ecstatic and I’m rather happy with it, too.
All suggestions are welcome! (If too complicated for me, I’ll ask you for help.) :p

July 23, 2009 at 3:58 am #311912Nice job! It looks pretty good. I’m a perfectionist so the pixel overlap on the menu is a little distracting but the site looks nice none the less. I’m sure your sister loves you for building her her very own website. One suggestion would be to maybe make the contact a standard contact layout and not the category layout since there is only one contact, hers. Great job though. 🙂

Hey thanks, wiery! You’re my hero for the day! I was considering removing the site from here because although I had ‘views’ no responses. :((
Thank you! I agree with the contact layout and changed it before coming to the forum. Please explain about the menu and pixel overlap. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, too but limited when it comes to what I’m learning with Joomla.
There are a few issues yet to be resolved, like the vertical gray bar on the right and why the webmaster@joomlart.com addy is used when an order is placed. I put in a tech support ticket a few days ago but no response just yet.
I’m satisfied overall, too. This is the most CSS changes I’ve made to a template and I enjoyed the training. My sister is very happy, indeed!
My best regards,

July 23, 2009 at 4:44 am #311917Your welcome. What I meant by the pixel overlap is when you look at the red menu above the green, the verticle seperators hang over the green about one pixel then when you hover over the red menu buttons, that button drops over the green menu about a pixel too. You can probably fix that with a little css change also.
My guess with the webmaster@joomlart.com email is that there’s a setting in virtuemart that needs to be changed under “edit store” where you can change the contact info. The email address probably needs to be changed to your sisters there.
I think that will work for you. Have a good night.

July 23, 2009 at 4:49 am #311918I’m smiling really big, thank you! I eyed it carefully before asking you the question about the pixels and thought that was probably it. Hmmm…it’s an image. Maybe I should decrease the height but will play around with the CSS, first.
The kicker about JA’s addy is in Edit store, I have my sister’s email address there. I’m perplexed about it. Ahhh…template_css.css file, not general.css. You’re wonderful to help! Thank you!
Have a good night yourself and be well.
GeoVi 🙂
****PS. It didn’t change the color of the vertical gray bar.

July 23, 2009 at 9:30 am #311932HI GeoVi,
Great site and i am sure this would have landed you with messy hair and red shot eyes 😛
Here are my observations :
1. The top right module >> Shopping cart looks great.
2. “Tell a Friend” module can be placed somewhere else. To me it looks a bit odd.
3. I see a black strip, running paralle to the right side module. It looks odd to me.
4. You may also decrease the gap between your body and footer. by altering the height of the overflow div.<div style="overflow: hidden; width: 100%; height: 183px;">
can be changed to
<div style="overflow: hidden; width: 100%; height: auto;">
Just checked your site with firebug.
regards
Arvind

Arvind,
Thank you! You made me smile. I will move Tell a Friend. I put in a support ticket on the black parallel/vertical stripe. I use Firebug too and nothing I’ve done or the suggestion from wistery has helped. And thanks for letting me know about decreasing that space between the footer and body. Great suggestion!
I said all of that but I am freaking out. I have checked with 3 browsers and none of the text on the homepage in the body (article) or other articles is showing!!! Ahhhh…must be the changes I made to the template_css.css file trying to get rid of that parallel stripe! LOL
I can fix that. I’m laughing at myself.
I appreciate your critique of the site and your suggestions. I had so much fun with it!
Warm regards,

July 23, 2009 at 10:19 am #311936Hi GeoVi,
Thanks. I shall have a look at the black strip. Let me see if i can find a solution to the same. Would be a bit delayed though as i would be travelling out today for the weekend. Hope to reply back by tomorrow.
regards

July 23, 2009 at 10:22 am #311937Ok, Arvind, safe travels. A quick question, please? What file do I look in to decrease the space between the body and the footer, please?

July 23, 2009 at 12:44 pm #311947Dear Ms GeoVi,
Thanks for the login info.
Your mod_s5_newsticker>> published at Banner position had a height setting, which was set to 143px. I have set it to auto.
So the space between the body and footer is decreased.
Looking into the other two problems you mentioned in your PM.
regards
Arvind
