Hey all, I could use some help here. I’m on godaddy (server) I just installed Joomla 1.5.5

I’ve been trying to upload the Quickstart Zip in the Extension Manager, with the UPLOAD PACKAGE FILE tool. It doesnt seem to like it. The upload seems to get stuck. I DONT receive any error message. But I also dont receive a successfull upload message.

I dont want to sound negative but, this kinda sucks because I just spent 50.00 bucks on this club, and the first template is already giving me issues.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do ?

    Thanks to all replies

    hey greenedit

you do’t need to install joomla first and then install the quickstart zip.

the quickstart zip already has a joomla installation in the zip (hence the size of it). The reason the zip is probably getting stuck is down to the size of the zip and other things.

What you need to do is uninstall joomla completely from your site.

unzip all of the files into a folder and upload all of the files to the root folder of your site.

once all of the files / folders have been uploaded, just navigate to your website url and it should automatically start the installation process of joomla. when asked to install sample data – click on the install sample data button. That will install the fake products for virtumart on your site.

To upload the files and folders, you’ll need to have an ftp connection setup to your website and then use software like ws-ftp or flashfxp (this one’s better) to upload all of the files.

depending on your connection – it could take around 1hr or 2 to upload all of the files. but once it’s done. it’s plain sailing from there on.

if you have any probs. just send me a pm and i’ll try to help you along

For installing the quickstart package you can read trough this post here:
    http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/quickstart-installation-guide/
Its not for this template, but the process is the same

anisjolly, thank you for your time. I’m fairly new to Joomla, so there is a learning curve. I’ll try and follow your instructions to the letter. I might take you up on that down the road. Appreciate your response.

godaddy is not a good host for joomla. you will have many issues.

you will not be able to upload the quickstart as a zip file and expand it.

you will need to unzip the quickstart into a directory on your local drive, then ftp the all of the files to your server manually. At that point you can do the regular install.

If you install joomla as a package at godaddy and then install the template, you will have problems.

also, if your using the shared aliased hosting, you will need to put the site into a sub directory. When go to the hosting/domains section of your setup, you will see your domain with a /, you want to click on edit and change the / to /foldername, replace folder name with the name of your choice.

I just went thru all of this with godaddy and found all of the workarounds I needed, but it took me two days and I am very experienced. Godaddy does not follow protocols and has its own proprietary system..

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but godaddy is well known for its issues.

mj1256, thank you for your info. Do you recommend leaving godaddy and going to another provider. And if so, who would you recommend ?

When it comes to hosting, take a look at bluehost, siteground, dreamhost, servage, rochen(they host Joomla.org so with this host you cant fail, but it costs and at the end it might be worth it).
To find a host YOU are comfortable with and that YOU prefer, its hard for me to say which one YOU will prefer to use and which one YOU is satisfied with.
Siteground: Works fine, quick support and never had any problems using them. I can reccomend them.
    Rochen: Same as above.
Dreamhost: Has been very slow at my end(load time of sites).
Servage: Getting better and better, fast support.
Rochen: Works fine, quick support and NEVEr had any problems using them. I can reccomend them.

The hosts above is just some hosts out there.

you pay for what you get, and rochen is the best, I wish others would make the move, it would solve allot of their problems.

I’ve never had a problem with rochen
