Why can’t I get JA Slideshow 2 to display properly?

The quickstart has the slideshow fill the width of the screen with three panels. I set it up on one of my domains — http://www.usgovernmentcorruption.org/#

I copied the exact same settings on an existing site, but I cannot get the three panels to display no matter what I change —

I also cannot figure out how to get my description to appear over the photos at all times; everything I try turns the image space black.

The only difference in the set-up is that I do not get the same position options in the established site that added JA Methys as a template compared to those that came with Quickstart. Why is that, and how can I get all of the quickstart positions?
