Hello,
I am using ja-teline for joomla 1.5 with the newest ja-news (ver 1.2.1) module.
(I changed the css of ja-news 1.2.1 to match that of ja-teline)
I use joomla 1.5.1I found this troubles:
1) when linking on a section(category) on the ja-news module, the ja-teline template gets replaced by the standard joomla template! In admin I choose ja-teline to display on all menu items!
see http://www.artarabe.net/j151 and click on “Kunst” or any article.
2) some images on the news rotator are stretched out to full size, why is that?
see http://www.artarabe.net/j151, and watch the rotator until it displays a (too) big picture.
3) (not related to ja-news) In some articles I get some weird characters, how can I display the proper characters?
for example:
thanks for helping me out!

March 12, 2008 at 8:03 am #2420101: I think the standard template is assigned to some parts of the site, can you check if you see that?
2: Do you use the version for 1.5 Joomla or you use legacy plug in?
3: Check that you have added the language files, and that your database is set up to support correct encoding.March 12, 2008 at 8:42 am #242015Thanks, but I already checked those things…
I use joomla 1.5.1
1) No the standard template (rhuk …) is not assigned to any menu, the admin of the standard template even says “Menus: Cannot assign Default Template”
In ja-teline, all menu items are added in admin2) I do not use the legacy plugin, but the newest ja-teline, in combination with the newest ja-news 1.2.1,
both are adapted to joomla 1.53)Database encoding is UTF8. New articles are automatically in UTF8. Language files are OK.
This problem appears in imported joomla articles (from joomla 1.0.x), is there a utility that I can run to change the strange characters into UTF-8?see http://www.artarabe.net/j151
Thanks for helping me out.

March 12, 2008 at 8:53 am #2420211: Go to the template manager, mark the rhuk template and press edit. You should get a box on left side there where you could assign it to any menu item?
2:There is a option on that module where you can set yes or no to Auto resize, have you set that to yes?
3: Not sure, i had same problem once and lucky it wasnt so many articles so i just changed it manually..March 12, 2008 at 11:01 am #2420370) In joomla 1.0.x I had ja-teline with ja-news 1.2beta working very nice,
and the news rotator (nieuwsflash) does scale the images correctly there.see http://www.artarabe.net (=joomla 1.0.x/ja-teline1.0/ja-news1.2beta)
I try now to migrate (rebuilding from scratch) that site to joomla 1.5.1/ja-teline1.5/ja-news1.2.1, but I get problems.
see http://www.artarabe.net/j151 (= joomla 1.5.1/ja-teline1.5/ja-news1.2.1)
1) seems to be solved now
2) That option works well, but it is not for the rotating header (nieuwsflash) , but for the sections/categories beneath it.
So the problem still exists. Again in joomla 1.0.x/ja-teline1.0/ja-news1.2beta it worked very well.3) So there is no real solutions for this?
4) another essential problem is that when I click on a menu item (for example “Cultuur”), I get a listing in blog format of all the articles in the section “cultuur”. This is a correct behaviour.
When I click on a heading ( e.g. the heading “Cultuur”) in ja-news it should give me the same result, but it does not. It does not show the articles.Again in joomla 1.0.x/ja-teline1.0/ja-news1.2beta the results of both where the same (as it should)
is this a bug?compare this in http://www.artarabe.net and in http://www.artarabe.net/j151
5) Breadcrumbs do not work well: when an article is selected no breadcrumb is shown.
I have published the joomla breadcrumbs module in the ja-teline “breadcrumbs” position.
Again in joomla 1.0.x/ja-teline1.0/ja-news1.2beta it worked very well.6) a small annoyance: in this version of ja-news 1.2.1 the throttle symbol (small animated gif with rotating circles) does not appear during article change in the news rotator. I tried to place it back via css but did not succeed. How to fix this?
Thanks again for helping!
March 12, 2008 at 6:37 pm #242070problems 4 and 5 are maybe solved by changing the menu link to “Articles ยป Section / Blog”!
I am testing this out.Problem 2 still persists, that is a bug in ja-news I suppose.
Is there any quick fix I can apply to it?If you need more info I can provide it to you.
thanks guys!!
March 14, 2008 at 12:33 am #242169You should be check in your database that is UTF-8 before migrate your articles.
I used the mtw migrator, it was excelent tool since my language is spanish. It migrated ok.

March 14, 2008 at 6:31 am #242178Hi,
Yes I know mtw migrator, I have used it too.
I do not know if the problems mentioned can have anything to do with mtw migrator.greetz
March 14, 2008 at 7:39 am #242186I dont think so, because when i used to spanish it was really good, no errors. But you need to open your database for example in PsPad http://www.pspad.com is a freeware editor, and check if your file has charset UTF-8, you can see in the bottom bar (UTF, ANSi etc) even when your format is UTF-8, if you have this issue you can go to Format and changing the format to other one and then changing to UTF-8 again will fix the charset to UTF-8. (You can see in the bottom bar -charset UTF-8), save and upload to the database. When i used other migrator i had these errors with charset.
I have a news website (with thousands of them and the migration was ok).
๐ I use ja_news of Dravity, (i change the css to teline). You should try with Mod-ja-news of Dravity but you need to work in css. These version fixed all my problems with ja-news.

March 14, 2008 at 12:42 pm #242217thanks bett00
mtw migrator did some strange things with my menu-items, so I reverted too the joomla migrator and this problem (4) was solved.
I use the same version of ja-news as you do.
This version seems to have one bug:
some images on the news rotator are stretched out to full size?
see http://www.artarabe.net/j151, and watch the rotator until it displays a (too) big picture.
ja-news 1.2beta did not have this problem.March 14, 2008 at 10:10 pm #242234I can not see the frontpage.
Are you compared both and understand where you can apply some change to get the images ok.
I dont know some issue with images but should be better to have a standard size to articles images or sections.

I am sorry, the second website-address was wrong
see http://www.artarabe.net (=joomla 1.0.x/ja-teline1.0/ja-news1.2beta), pictures in headline news rotator are ok.
see http://www.artarabe.net/j2 (= joomla 1.5.1/ja-teline1.5/ja-news1.2.1), pictures in headline news rotator are too big!

In both installations I use exactly the same articles
I am sorry the url was wrong:
see http://www.artarabe.net (=joomla 1.0.x/ja-teline1.0/ja-news1.2beta)
see http://www.artarabe.net/j2 (= joomla 1.5.1/ja-teline1.5/ja-news1.2.1)

March 16, 2008 at 1:48 am #242298Hello:
The ja_news does not have any option to resize of headlines images like blog.php.
You can see /tmpl/blog.php and headline.php, headline.php does not include param like
$autoresize = intval (trim( $params->get( ‘autoresize’, 0) ));
$width = intval (trim( $params->get( ‘width’, 100 ) ));
$height = intval (trim( $params->get( ‘height’, 100 ) ));
Therefore you would need to apply the changes in the code or resize your images in the articles….:((
I think you should open a news thread: How can resize my headline images?…
You need to make the changes in the code to config these options in the ja_news module like its section or category…
Auto resize? Yes, No
Image Width ____
Image Height ____You can also see the file.xml or module conf., the features exist to category or section

I will open a new thread as suggested!
March 16, 2008 at 2:06 am #242300Thanks for the advice.
There seems to be already a topic about this, and maybe even a solution…. (but not published )
