I’m confused about the JA News module. I can’t get the headline feature to work. There are references to a JA Header module and JA Ajax Headline but no instructions about them. Is this a separate module that has to be installed?
The user guide only states “JA News module consists two part as you see in the Demo. The first part of the module is JA Ajax Headline, which shows the latest frontpage news items in a rollover box. The second part is the other news classified by your categories.”
Do I have to do something with the Ajax Headline and where do I do that? I’ve followed the user guide’s instructions but this isn’t working and I’m completely confused.bigrk Friendbigrk

January 15, 2008 at 3:11 am #236430Did you do just a Template install or a QuickStart install?
January 15, 2008 at 12:25 pm #236461Hi BIGRK,
did you see my previuos post about the same prob referred to JA News module ??
Is there in this valuable forum that we CUSTOMER of JOOMLART can expect reliable answers about our problems like the one right now mentioned or NOT ??
Would like to hear from one of the BOSS mr. HUNG DINh or the famous Khanh Le about troubbles we get this only frankly speaking for what concern my self about the valuable JA Teline template.
Last could I suggest a under payment implementation of this best sold template with some new features, more graphical definitions as per many other here available ??
Waiting for a replay (already a few days without …)

The headline text, the back/forward/pause buttons do not display at all. The other part which displays the section or category below does seem to work. I couldn’t be more confused even though the user’s guide makes this sound so simple. I’m not even sure how you control what content displays in the headline part.
The instructions say to create a new module position, but you just add a name to the Site>Template Manager>Module Positions. I don’t see how naming a position ‘creates’ one though. The Teline screenshots has a JA News under Header Modules (position C), but where do you find Header modules? Am I suppose to be using the edit the HTML feature?I’ve only been working with Joomla for 3 months so this is probably a newbie problem, but I’ve been able to resolve most issues but I’m really stuck…I’ve looked at the parameters a million times and I’m not making the connection.

January 16, 2008 at 8:48 am #236505Hi fraserg,
If this is a new site, I recommend that you use the “Quick Start” version which has all the modules pre-installed for you. For three months of use, you probably don’t have a lot of data.
Now the hard part: Installing JA News in not, infact that hard,
<blockquote>The instructions say to create a new module position, but you just add a name to the Site>Template Manager>Module Positions. I don’t see how naming a position ‘creates’ one though. </blockquote>
Maybe someone else should confirm, but what I think is happening is that when you create a template position, you are creating a position in the system where the new template can use that reference.
<blockquote>The Teline screenshots has a JA News under Header Modules (position C), but where do you find Header modules? Am I suppose to be using the edit the HTML feature?</blockquote>
1. On your the main menu click on Modules > Site Modules
2. Look for JA News. That is where you will assign modules to positions and configure other parameters.
1. Position: ja-news The name of the new position you created
2. Menu items: Highlight “Home” and nothing else.Category ID: If you a “Sport” category and want category “Sports” to appear on the front page this is where you put it’s ID. To find out about the category ID, simply from main menu, click on Content > Category Manager. Write down the number corresponding to the category of your choice.
I hope this bit helps.
Good luck
January 16, 2008 at 2:08 pm #236521Thanks for responding Abdul.
The quick install is not an option for me as my site is pretty much done except for this part. I’m using siteground and used their joomla install service.
Here is my confusion with the ‘add a name to the Site>Template Manager>Module Positions’..I can go and name a position but how do you specify a location for that name? If I name a position JA News and then assign the module there it does not appear at all. If I change the position to one of the pre-defined positions (like banner) it will show. I could name 10 new postions but they don’t really exist as a location within the template. I feel like I am just creating position names, not actual locations. I’m totally missing something here.
As for header modules, I’m talking about the green and not the blue positions on the Teline screenshots at http://www.joomlart.com/templates_club/club_portfolio/ja_teline.html; these do not display as location options for modules.
I’ve followed the instructions and know where everything is that is referenced, but I’m not getting the rollover box at all. I just want that part.
The tutorial also makes this reference:
<blockquote>* Config description:
JA News module consists two part as you see in the Demo. The first part of the module is JA Ajax Headline, which shows the latest frontpage news items in a rollover box. The second part is the other news classified by your categories. Here’s the full description.</blockquote>
The reference JA Ajax Headline has me concerned….what does that mean? Do I have to enable Ajax somewhere?
Thanks for trying to help, but right now I am still no closer.January 16, 2008 at 2:26 pm #236522Good news; sort of. I was making a stupid mistake! Hopefully someone else will learn from this. I did not have any content items ‘enabled’ for the frontpage so therefore there was nothing for the rollover box to display, which meant that the box didn’t appear as well.
However, I still have two issues. I still cannot have the module display in the JA News position I created (again I feel I made a name only and not a position). If I set it to banner it kind of accomplishes where I want it to be displayed, but I’d rather do it the proper way).
Also, I just want the rollover box to be displayed…..how can I not display the second part…the blog like ‘other news classified by your categories’?January 16, 2008 at 2:30 pm #236524I seemed to have solved my 2nd issue by setting everything in the parameters to 0.
1 more issue to go! Who can help me???
January 16, 2008 at 2:35 pm #236525Sorry, I’m back. While my headline rollover box is now displaying I have noticed that it is not rotating (I think there is another thread about this?) and that the ‘loading’ icon just keeps spiining.
Any ideas? Is there a javascript that I need to include in the html?kashxo Friendkashxo

January 17, 2008 at 4:26 am #236562Please PM me your live site URL and administrator information. I will help you solve this issue, fraserg.
January 18, 2008 at 7:59 pm #236685I seemed to have fixed my problem and of course created a new one. It seemed to be a permissions issues to the ja news module. The server logs from siteground had this message [2008-01-18 13:42:02]: error: file is writable by others: (/home/XXXXX/public_html/modules/ja_news/headlineloader.php). So I removed the Write attribute. This seemed to have work. However when I go into the backend now, now matter what I click it logs me off and goes to the admin login screen. Any ideas?

January 19, 2008 at 5:49 pm #236718Thanks kashxo, but I do have it rotating now. I had to put the ‘www’ in my live site address in the config file. However, I notice that in my headline box at the bottom of the content it say Array and then the title of the next news item (actually the next two items). Like this:
ArrayNew website in developmentArrayMission
How do I remove the Array (and also the names of the next items if possible)?bigrk Friendbigrk
