September 29, 2011 at 1:21 am #169072We are working the bugs out in a test site and have found a problem that we have been able to reproduce in a QuickStart site and also on the site we are testing on and the site we want to develop on.
What happens is that in the Module JA News – Default Layout when you select the option of “Show” under Display Settings for the option “Show Create By” a string of text appears on every article that says “Juser” instead of saying the name of the author of the article.
Has anybody else seen this problem and if so do you know how to get the Author Name to display instead.
You can see this at http://dev16.shalomadventure.com
We are playing with three different layouts but the default layout is the little grid icon on the top. And, it should be the default layout.
I have also had the same problem on the quickstart site at http://qst16.shalomadventure.com and also our site at http://www.shalomadventure.com (the www site is actually hidden behind a login and password screen.
If anybody uses ftp to help with this the www site is in ~/public_html
The other sites are at:
~/public_html/qa/dev16 for http://dev16.shalomadventure.com
and
~/public_html/qa/qst16 for http://qst16.shalomadventure.com
All of these sites use the same administrator login and password.
I sure hope somebody can give me a pointer!
Thank you, Sean Carney

September 29, 2011 at 3:53 am #415589Hi Sean!
I am not seeing this. Is it in all browsers or just certain ones. please provide a screen shot.
As for the Author name displaying, in the Article Manager, Parameters, for the parameter Author Name, you should select Show.
Are you using any special coding in the articles for the author name?
What is the version of Joomla being used on the sites?
Thanks!scarney Friendscarney

We are not using and special coding or characters for the Author name.
This Show Create By setting is in the module itself but it probably trying to call the core joomla function to display an authors name.
We are using Joomla 1.6.6I will try to add an attachment.

September 29, 2011 at 4:48 pm #415688Not to step on Blaine’s assistance with/for you, Sean (or Blaine) . . . .
I actually experienced a somewhat similar issue like this last evening with a Teline IV J1.7 install … and the really strange part is that it was ONLY occurring when viewing the site within CHROME browser. The solution ended up being (as simple as it sounds) clearing my browser cache (which, in Chrome, is Ctrl+F5).
This is not to say that this issue might not still be a permissions or .htaccess issue … but it’s at least worth a shot.
😎
okay, tossing ball back to Blaine . . . .

September 30, 2011 at 6:05 pm #415937Thanks Tom. I think the suggestion to clear the cache is a good one. Let’s wait and see what scarney tells us after that is done!

September 30, 2011 at 7:19 pm #415951Hello Tom and Blaine,
Can you both go to the following two sites and take screen shots. I have a hard time believing this is not showing in your windows. I am helping a friend do this site he asked me to help solve the problem. I went to the site and found the problem right away. I then went to our test site and set the Show Created By setting to “Show” and the problem immediately started on that site.
Please when you go to the two sites do a search for the string “JUser” and I am sure you will find many instances of that string instead of the name of an author. This is at the home page in the JA News Default Layout module.
http://dev16.shalomadventure.com
http://qst16.shalomadventure.com
I am pretty sure you will find this is a bug in the module or a configuration problem on our end but not an issue with the cache.
I did clear the cache in Joomla and the JAT3 cache and my browser cache.
Thank you, Sean Carney
PS. This is in the News module so it is ONLY showing up on the home page under the headings of Daily Living, Holy Days, etc..

Blaine, Would you be willing to go to http://dev16.shalomadventure.com/ and take a screen shot. Then upload the screenshot! The string “JUser” is in each of the category sections just below the article titles. It says JUser under EVERY ONE for me like so:Daily Living
Parenting
As a little child
JUser
I was not raised in a highly observant home. When I began to practice my faith, I…

October 3, 2011 at 2:45 am #416336Sean,
Either you believe me and the other mod or not.
I have asked for this to be elevated and for a third person to look at it.
We are trying to help you, but if we can NOT see the problem, it is difficult to do so.

This is a technology problem and not a matter of trust. Of course I do NOT believe you or the other mod because I and others are seeing the exact opposite. So, that is why I am asking for an image so that we can see if maybe you are not actually looking at the same page or maybe the string is there and you are missing it.
Please consider making the screen shot so we can check and see what is different from what you are seeing and what I am seeing. This is taking a LONG time to resolve.
Thank you, Sean Carney

October 3, 2011 at 3:00 pm #416463Hi Sean,
I have asked another person to help on this.
I will not provide a screen shot as my regular computer is in the shop and I am working on a different machine.
I would strongly suggest you FORCE a clear of the browser to be sure what you are seeing is correct.
thanks! -
