I’ve followed the userguide, but for some reason JA News Frontpage isn’t showing at all, though JA news is showing fine. Both are in the ja-news mdoule position.

Hi jjsmulo,
Did you install using the QuickStart? If so, did you get the default layout with the FrontPage showing like the Demo?
If you are just starting your site, the best thing to do would be to start again using the QuickStarrt kit. Download a fresh one. You must get the Demo page, if you are doing everything as suggested in the QuickStart installation.
What would help also would be to show copies of the “Admin” page of the FrontPage module, as you filled the specifications.
One quick way to attempt to resolve this yourself is to upload the modules that affect the Frontpage (download a new QuickStart Kit) — see modules, and also upload the entire teline_ii directory in the “templates”.

March 11, 2009 at 5:09 am #295368No, this wasn’t a quick start installation. I’ve had trouble every time I’ve attempted one except for those with another club.
I have already put up a number of things on the site and just want a solution that doesn’t involve throwing the work I’ve already done in the trash. I’ve followed the instructions given by Joomlart and am frustrated its not working.

March 11, 2009 at 9:47 am #295412Hi jjsmulo
This may sounds like a crazy question, but, you have assigned the same number of articles to appear ‘Front Page’ as you’ve set up in the JA News Frontpage module (Number of News, Number of Featured news, etc), and then ordered them via the FrontPage Manager?

March 11, 2009 at 2:45 pm #295432I think everything is right. I’ve attached screen shots. Thanks.

jjsmulo,
Go to the Admin page to the FP mpdule and select “All”, or try under “newsmaazine” => Home. Both should work. For the position, select it so that it is at the top (first). See how it affects other pages, if you select specific category, section or article.
The mistake might be that you selected “Main menu” => “Home”. The default setting is “All”, from all my previous QuickStart installations.. It is likely that you accidentally (or intentionally?) changed it?
If you ever install any Joomlart template again in the future, use the QuickStart and be sure to install the Default demo data. It really is very fast — 5 min tops — and you start with default settings.
I have installed many Teline II already, but I found it easier to use the QuickStart all the time. After I have all stuff set up correctly, then I start to modify. If it does not work, I found it easier to start all over again, including downloading a “fresh” copy of the QuickStart (usually I use the zip version).

March 11, 2009 at 3:42 pm #295440I tried changing to all, though unfortunately it changed nothing.
If I knew for sure I could do the Quickstart and it would work I’d go for it. I get stuck every time though, so I’m hesitant. It seems to me that Joomlart should provide instructions that actually get their products working. Not everyone can delete everything and start over.

.</blockquote>jjsmulo,
What is obvious here is something went wrong. I suggested other stuff in my first response that you could try. Unless you allow your site to Joomlart for further scrutiny, I do not think anyone here can help you. It may help to send a ticket, as a Developer, you have this privilege.

There are a number of times though, as proven in this forum, that the errors were due to users — doing something wrong.
Unless you try, you will never know. We are different. If it takes me 5min or an hour or however long it will take to prove whether the error is mine — I will do it. To put it differently, it is now more than a day since you posted this (only 13% of postings ever get answered, and even less correctly). So, what would you rather do?
The procedure for the QuickStart — is the same as that of Joomla — is given in the step-by-step as you do the installation and a tutorial is also in the Joomla page. There are several here in the Teline II forum also, including some in the separate Tutorial section.
From my experience, more than 90% of the time the QuickStart installation worked for me, and it is much faster than a custom installation. Most of the errors happened when I was new. Reasons:
1. I forgot to install the “sample” data <= happened once
2. for Joomla 1.5, failure to setup the FTP properly <= happened once
3. fidelity of upload <= happened twice recently (this was easily corrected by re-uploading the apropriate modules and files that were not working (as I suggested in my first response to you). The third happened more recently, as my hosting service had been moving websites to new servers as well as upgrading MySQL, PHP and other server softwares.
Good luck.
Cornelio
