    I’m using JA News and I’m trying to figure out why one heading links to a blog style layout while another defaults to a list view. Is there a way to force the headings to link to a specific view?

    One header formats like this:

    option=com_content&view=category&id=1:category-name

    The other like this:

    option=com_content&view=category&id=47:category2-name&layout=blog&Itemid=106

    What controls the ability to add the &layout=blog& to all headings?

    Thanks.

    Hi bunge

    Sounds strange, have you been adding new sections/categories?

    One thing I would do first is to edit the Magazine menu and check that every section and category are set to ‘Blog Layout’ style here:

    If not, ‘Change Type’ and change to Blog Layout.

    Good Luck

    I’m not sure what you mean by “Magazine menu”. I’ll test a few things but I’m still a little bit confused.

    Hi Bunge

    The magazine menu is what basically controls the whole of a Telline II site. This ensures that every section and category are displayed in a certain way when accessed via a menu.

    First of all, log in as Admin and from the “Menu” menu, select “magazine *”:

    This will then show a list of all the sections and categories that you have created:

    As you can see from the example above, taken from my own site, all the sections and categories should be set to “Category / Blog” type.

    If you have some that aren’t, just open them and “change type” as outlined above until they are all set to the same!

    Good Luck

    Well holy cow. Just curious, but is that documented somewhere? Is “Magazine” a menu that should have been added at install or can I manually add it? I’ll go try but this is all news to me.

    Wish me luck. I’ll report back.

    Good luck Bunge!

    If you installed the Quick Start data along with the template, then it should be set to the default menu (when you look in your ‘Menus’ menu, this one should have an asterix after it).

    Also, if you did install the Quick Start package, then when you go to edit this menu, it should look fairly similar to the example from my own site shown above.

    Let me know how you go on and if I can help any further.

    Ha! Thanks for the luck. Well that certainly changes some things. I’ve gotten some things moved around and working so it’s much better. Still a few questions, if you don’t mind.

    I now have a “home” button in my magazine menu which is active but isn’t published on a page. I also have a “home” button in my mainmenu. Is this normal? One’s a copy of the other but when publishing modules I now have to put them in two places to make sure it shows up on both. Is the magazine menu suppose to override the mainmenu?

    Also, “Read More” and comments aren’t showing up on the blog pages even though I have them enabled.

    I feel like I’m missing something. I’m new to Joomla 1.5 but I’ve been using Joomla for a while. I still feel like something’s off.

    Nice to hear things are getting better!

    First of all, with regards the menu. Go to the “Extensions” menu and choose “Template Manager”. Open the JA_Telline_ii template and check that your “Menu Type” is set to “Magazine” here:

    This will be the main menu for the site and you can unpublish the others if you wish.

    With regards the Read More, etc., do you have a live URL I can take a look at?

    Doh! This is what happens when two people are setting up a site together, located in different locations. My template guy set all that up and I never saw the options. I should have looked further.

    If you click on one of the headings like “Backdraft” or “ISA News”, it will now go to a blog page (thank you), but the page is very stark. Something’s definitely off with it. Like I said the read more link just isn’t there.

    Hi Bunge

    This may sound like a really dumb question … but, you have inserted the ‘Read More’ code in those articles?

    Good question.

    When the content was moved to Joomla 1.5, the Read More was messed up on some articles. I’ve cleaned up the first few in the different categories for testing purposes so the Read More should show up properly. You can see the faint line in the editor now whereas before it had defaulted to the first line of the article.

    JomComment is involved. It’s running my comments and when you click through to an article you can see it at the bottom. Typically a “read more” and a “Add comment” appear but they’re missing. I think even though the categories are tagged in JomComment (you can tell because the individual articles do have comments) the way the Blog page is being rendered is, well, wrong. It’s as if the template is filtering out something as the request goes through.

    Bunge

    Can you copy the HTML in one of the articles with a read more that should be working? Let me take a look if I can spot anything. Go to your Article Editor, click the HTML tab and paste it here.

    Thanks

    This is the snippet right by the readmore tag:

    …The old, it seems, have fallen with the weak and sick.</p>
    <hr id=”system-readmore” />
    <p><br />On the final day of group play….

    Just another thought. In Module Manager, open JA News module and check that everything looks like this:

    There’s something really strange about this module. I had to set the ‘Show Read More’ to ‘Hide’ in order to get the Read More buttons to appear!

    It may be worth trying to duplicate my settings above to see what happens in the section/category pages?

    Here’s what a second opinion gave:

    “On a basic category blog layout on my site, Joomla! actually uses the code $row->text to display the contents. However, the category blog layout on your site uses a mixture of $row->introtext , $row->fulltext and $row->text to display the contents on the site.”

    So in the PHP, JA News is tacking together a few items. I think I’m going to have to hack the PHP which isn’t good. Does anyone here have experience with $row->text?
