How do you get Ja-News to make porpotional thumbnails. some of our images are portrait and some are landscape. I would like to be able to set a thumbnail width and the resulting thumbnail be porportional and not get distorted.

This is not a feature of JA News. You should pick a size for them and then create your own.

Actually bigrk it is.
I found the answer by looking at the janews.php code.
In janews module, If you set either the width or height to -1 the thumbnail is then resized proportionally.

for my site I set the width to -1
and height to 90

But aren’t you using a larger image to begin with? Also what happens to vertical versus a landscape images? Then when viewing the home page are the pictures squished or streched at all? Could you post your URL so I can see what they look like?
