February 26, 2008 at 4:12 am #126024Hi Everyone,
I’ve actually got three separate questions about the Teline template.
1. In the JA News module, is it possible to use the order defined in each section for the stories or does it have to be ordered from newest story to oldest story. The site I’m working on needs to have the ability to define the order of the stories without changing the order in which they entered (since this takes a lot of extra time). I may not be understanding the way JA News module orders the stories, so perhaps someone could explain the ordering. To be clear, I’m not talking about the Headline area.
2. At the bottom of the live demo of Teline there is a very nice “Feature” area with five specially selected stories. How does one make this work? I have figured out that this uses the JA Spotlight (or JA-SLWI). I’ve installed the module and inserted it in 4 positions at the bottom of my site, but the design doesn’t match the live demo and I’m not able to get the fifth position working correctly.
3. This is the final and probably least significant seeming issue. In the hidden-panel (hpanel) area of the site is the area for users to login to the site. Next to this is the text that reads “No account yet? Register”. I’d like to change the word/link “Register” to read “Subscribe” since the site I’m working on requires a subscription.
I apologize in advance if I’ve overloaded this thread with to many questions, but as the site I’m working on is getting very close to launch time, I really need to resolve these issues as soon as possible. I’ve included the required support information below in as much detail as possible. If you have further questions, please ask in a response.
Website URL: http://guadalajarareporter.dreamhosters.com/
Components installed:
- .Subscription Plans
- DS-Syndicate
- Xmap
Modules/mambots installed:
- Jumi
- JA News (obviously)
- DS-Syndicate
- JA SLWI
Version of Joomla: Joomla! 1.0.13 Stable
Modifications to the template:
- Template was not installed from Quickstart since I already had a live Joomla installation for this site.
- Menu moved below logo
- Colors changed in CSS
- Banner position activated above logo
- Footer heavily modified

February 26, 2008 at 10:02 am #2402071. I belive it takes ordering from the new to old, but i am not sure about it. Maybe the creator of the module can give you some tips around it.
2.This is just some “dummy” modules at the bottom of the demo site, Modules>Site Modules>New and you can just create a new module with your text/images in and you have it set. To use the JA-Spotlight module there, please do a search on the forum, this have been mentioned not long time ago.
3.You can change that in the language file of your Joomla installation, open it up and you see a folder called language. Open that file and search for register and you find a string like this:
DEFINE('_CREATE_ACCOUNT','Register');
And you can change it to:
DEFINE('_CREATE_ACCOUNT','Subscribe');
But, you actually did your homework about this post here:)
This is just as clean and informative as it should be. Way to go.2 users say Thank You to Menalto for this useful post

February 26, 2008 at 4:14 pm #240252This is a really helpful answer Menalto! Thanks! I’ve got a bit of a follow-up about these questions:
1. Who is the creator of the JA-News module? Is that someone on the JoomlArt team? I’m happy to contact them to get clarification. If I can’t change the way it is ordered I might need to replace the JA-News module.
2. I’ll try your suggestion for the dummy content and hope that works and isn’t to hard to update. If I’m not happy with how that works, I’ll try using the Spotlight module. It is a bit disappointing that this is part of the demo site, but is not in the template.
3. I’ll try that when I next work on the site, but it sounds like that solves my problem.
Thanks again Menalto. I make sure to mark the post as solved when I’ve tried all the suggestions!

You mean the headline section? It displays frontpage articles. You could change its order in Frontpage Manager page.

You don’t need to use JA-SLWI module. Those module are just custom modules. In module manager, you click add module and put the content with image, then publish the module to appropriate position.1 user says Thank You to Khanh Le for this useful post

February 28, 2008 at 3:07 am #240502Hi Khan,
<blockquote>You mean the headline section?</blockquote>
1. As I mentioned in the last sentence, I am not talking about the Headline area. I am specifically talking about the category based area below the headline area. If you look at the site (http://guadalajarareporter.dreamhosters.com/) you’ll see the areas labeled Guadalajara, Lake Chapala, Regional, National and Business. Looking at the Guadalajara section, I would really like the third story (Small, inexpensive gifts under one roof) to be the top story even though it was added to the site after the current top story. In the Content Items Manager it is ranked #1 in the category Guadalajara. Can I tell the JA-News module to use this ordering!2. Thanks for the tip, I’ll give this a try, I think this may work, but I’m not actually sure this will work in the long run, but I’ll have to decide that later.
Thanks for the feedback,

March 1, 2008 at 3:18 am #240784May I please find out about the ordering of the articles in the JA-News module? I need to decide whether I’ll continue to use the module or move to a different solution.
Thanks,

March 2, 2008 at 3:50 am #240959Hey everyone,
I found this thread that talks about using a random order in the lower area of JA-News and I was wondering if maybe this line of PHP (found on line 191 of mod_janews.php) might be responsible for the of the lower area of JA-News:
. “n ORDER BY a.created DESC limit ” . ($linksitem+1);
If so, is there anyway to code this so that instead of using the creation date it used the category order? I’m not a PHP expert so I could really use some assistance with this.
Thanks again,
Noah Brimhall
