August 19, 2007 at 2:28 am #122159Hello Joomlart
Can anyone think of a reason why the AJAX element of the module ‘janewsflash’ fails to cycle through the various content items contained within the Section/Category it points to?
This module is very simple to set up – just give it a position (top), point it to a Category location (Newsflashes/Newsflash), and set a ‘Rolling delay time’ (10). However, all it does is displays a single item from the category, and doesn’t ‘roll’ to the other content items in that category.
Is there something special I need to do on the AJAX side of things?
(I’m using this as part of the Rochea template).
It’s not a browser limitation as I can see how it should work by viewing the demo display on http://www.joomlart.com/templates_demo.php

August 19, 2007 at 4:30 am #227430Thanks for the tip, but sadly the Mageia newsflash mod doesn’t correct the problem for my Rochea template.
I still have a ‘non-rolling’ AJAX newsflash system.:((
I’ve got some other domains I can trial it on – so I’ll see what happens there. Plus I’ll try some other AJAX enabled MODs to see if they work as expected – just in case it’s an overall AJAX issue.
Presumably the MOD works (otherwise there would be a lot more posts about it, and the demo site would fail too ). It’s as if there is some overall hosting / Joomla / security issue. My site is hosted on siteground.com hosting, which have been fine to this point.
Any other ideas are welcomed

August 19, 2007 at 5:32 am #227437I’ve just done a completely fresh Joomla install at officetopgun.com
Ive installed the JA Rochea template and I’ve installed and published the JA Newsflash mod to the ‘top’ (and set it to feed off the Newsflashes/newsflash category). I’ve unpublished the regular joomla newsflash.
As this is a stock standard Joomla install (via fantastico), what CHMODing are you suggesting I check?
Thanks in advance.

That looks to me like it is the standard joomla one and not our joomlart one.cybatek Friendcybatek

August 19, 2007 at 6:10 am #227441No, it’s the real deal I’m afraid.
I have placed screen shots showing the mod is activated are on the front page of the site (http://www.officetopgun.com)
I’m happy to give you access to the site if you want to poke around.

September 2, 2007 at 9:52 pm #228663I haven’t received an answer from support on this one yet (they and the forums have been great on other Qs I have posted).
Here’s something I found out for myself.
If I post their demo site (ja_quillaja_source.zip) onto a server – everything works perfectly. However, using all the default settings, I get a warning from my server – Joomla! RG_EMULATION setting is `ON` instead of `OFF` in file globals.php
–I had read elsewhere that the problem of the module not working may have been security related. To test things, I set RG_EMULATION to ‘OFF’ (better security?) and it kills off the module: but worse than that – when I turn it back to ON, the module does not revive.
If I re-up the whole demo thing (with emulation set to on), it all works again.
So this is not a solution – it is just the current thing I am doing. I dont know enough about Joomla / PHP to spend more time on this. I hope this helps someone figure out an answer.
September 14, 2007 at 10:26 pm #229474Hey guys, I had the same problem with my Rochea template. My problem was that my configuration.php had http://mysite.com set up as the live site. So when it was cross scripting when I tried to hit http://www.mysite.com (the missing www. is what im talking about) and wouldn’t allow the rotating.
I changed it to http://www.mysite.com in configuration.php and that fixed things up. Having that slight difference between the url you use and whats in your configuration.php can cause a lot of problems, such as this one.
If this doesn’t help then I hope you get it soon 🙂
November 21, 2007 at 2:11 pm #233196I am having the same problem… the module won’t scroll through the content items in the section/category I’ve set… otherwise I’m confident the settings are all correct.
Anyone got any ideas? What is the CHMOD?
