I assign the category and section, but it gives the following error:

“You haven’t selected any category or there’s no items on the selected category.”

this may seem like the obvious, but gotta ask

do you have at least 2 content items assigned to the category you selected in the parameters for the module

    Hello mj1256,

Thanks for the reply. I have created 2 articles assigned to the section/category being used by the newflash. I will create a few more just to make sure. They are only a few sentences long but are in the appropriate sections

    Thanks

did you install from quickstart, manually?

if from quickstart, I just edit the existing news items with my content so I avoid these issues.

is the sample items still there, switch it back and see if they work

No I just uploaded the template into the appropriate directory and installed the JAnewsflash on its own, I suppose I could go back and re-upload some of the folders with the example data if necessary?

if you haven’t populated the site yet, start over and install from quickstart. everything should work ( at least it always does for me). it would be a lot faster than spending time to debug it.

if it doesn’t work right, I bet it didn’t add the appropriate paths in the head of the index file..

Alright, I’m reuploading over all the old files with the quickstart ones. I’ll let you know how it goes

    Thanks

OK, make sure you delte the existing site, do not overwrite

make a new database, do not connet to the old, just up loading the files will make a mess( in my experience)

if you have cpanel, upload the quickstart and expand it, then install just like joomla, and then, click install sample data when you get to the database part of the install process.

Is there an easier way? Perhaps adding the tags to the index file?

no, you need to do a proper install

OK, Will do… I have cpanel but I’m not sure how to upload and install the quickstart file…

Thanks for your help, used the quick start installer and now have my database setup correctly. I guess just dumping the template file into the directory can cause some problems… good thing I’m starting this site from scratch or it could have been a huge hassle.

    Thanks again,

    Devin
