I had already installed Joomla 1.5 through cpanel utilizing fantastico and included example articles in the install.
I downloaded the JA Opal template and tried to install three ways.
1. First by trying to install with extension manager and used upload package file. Received error message that it was unable to find install package. I have found that my php upload limit is 2MB and have requested this to be changed by my hosting provider since this could possibly be an issue. Gave up on this so far.
2. Uploaded the file to temp folder on root directory and try to install with extension manager by selecting the file in the directory. I receive XML error. Gave up on this.
3. With all the frustration I gave up and just copied the ja opal folders over into the template folder on the root directory and I was able to install all the extensions through extension manager. Site doesn’t look like demo site.
I have also tried removing joomla through fantastico so that I could just use the quickstart folder from the JA Opal download, but it is not letting me do that. I have contacted my hosting support to try and get this accomplished.
I noticed that the demo images were in the quickstart folder, but not in the template folder zip that you would use if joomla is alerady installed. If you are not using the quickstart method, how do you get the demo images and section and catagories onto your site?
The site I am trying to setup is crossroadsyouthsports.com.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Dennis

June 10, 2009 at 6:50 pm #307570Hi enisdec
Not sure who you’re hosting with and I have no experience with fantastico but I always use Filezilla for uploading deleting etc. As long as you have ftp access details and set up your mysql ready it should work fine, maybe it would work for you.
When installing using filezilla I download the template zip from Joomlart, unpack the quickstart on my pc and then upload the extracted files to the folder I want to use, it seems to be the easiest way.
June 10, 2009 at 8:53 pm #307581I guess one major question is how do I get the categories and sections setup so that they match the demo other than just going in and entering them manually. How do I get the demo content to show up. Also I noticed that when I am in module manager and I select just the ja opal templaete, JA Slideshow does not show up in the list.

June 11, 2009 at 12:13 am #307591I’d be inclined to start from scratch and reinstall using the quickstart and filezilla. Who are you hosting with?

I had a quick look and looks fine with everything in place. Glad you managed it ok.
June 24, 2009 at 5:33 pm #308966Well… it doesn’t work… I’m using JA Opal in one host (Go Daddy) and now we’re planning to change to BlueHost. I have same Joomla 1.5.11 working with JA Opal at the old host and they don’t use Cpanel.
At the new host the only way to install the template is through the File Manager in Cpanel (extract function). Even from inside Joomla Installation component it doesn’t work.
Any ideas of what could be the problem? This is a multilingual portal and for each language I have to install a subfolder, is going to be a pain in a neck if I can install it in the easier way.
BTW, it doesn’t work with the Quickstart either, and all the extensions that come with the template, installs fine.
Please help…

June 24, 2009 at 5:42 pm #308968Are you changing from GoDaddy because you can’t upload the template?
June 24, 2009 at 5:49 pm #308969Nope… At Godaddy works fine, but at the new host it doesn’t… And I have no clue why… maybe some configuration at the host side, but I don’t know why.

June 24, 2009 at 6:20 pm #308973I’ve just looked at what Bluehost provide and it all looks good php5 etc. Cpanel has changed since I used it last going by the demo. I still would have tried filezilla for upload of quickstart. If you can’t install from within the template sounds like a possible permissions problem? Maybe someone else who hosts with them could help…
June 24, 2009 at 6:43 pm #308976That’s my guess too… I believe it’s a permission problem, but where?! I’ve checked and compared with both hosts and looks the same.
When I upload with Filezilla and try to run from the Joomla Admin Panel it gives me an error that ” the XML file is not right or doesn’t exist at the folder”.
But inside of the Joomla Admin site it shouldn’t be a problem of permission… and I tried to load other template (teline II) and works fine.
Weird…

June 24, 2009 at 7:09 pm #308980Have you tried starting from scratch using filezilla to upload the quickstart files? I unzip on my c drive then use filezilla to upload the unzipped quickstart files, then when you go to the www of yoursite you automatically go to the installation.
