February 24, 2009 at 10:45 am #138498We have made some sport templates but today, with the upcoming JA Opal, I am confident
to take up any challenge in template design for Sport templates in Joomla community. I have also seen good looking sport designs somewhere, but it does not look as good as you are going to have it here at JA.Theme 1: Opal – One template, many sports (JA 09 Olympic :))
(so more themes are on the way)View the higher resolution HERE

February 24, 2009 at 11:24 am #293246Well, first of all, very nice, looks sleak and I know it is also the first real sports template for Joomla at all.
Second, sports templates, the one thing you can or maybe already have done is to look over all the major sites like http://www.espn.com or Foxsports. Those would be the ones related to sports television in the USA and are mostly fancy ones. On the other hand maybe also the homepages of the sports manufacturers.
I think some other members will have more suggestions, from what I have seen in interest in sports by them personally.
What I can say is that Highslide is a must, login and other parts should be pop ups. There should be a search function hidden in some cpanel and I would include some more extensions related to showcasing certain news and a module kept free to include Google Video Ads not normal videos.
Think this template will be liked a lot, so thanks already!

February 24, 2009 at 12:56 pm #293248Hung Dinh;114357Just a note that we still want receive your feedback and make some improvements if they are appropriate.
By the way, can any help collecting a list of Sport templates so that we can learn from them.Looks ok but you can’t help the feeling it’s just JA zinc, JA quartz, JA cooper combined and revamped, it just doesn’t grab ya as anything “new”. Oh and you call it Opal in your post and on the site its Opual?
I’m all for reusing code , recycling module positions but unless JA starts creating new extensions or integrating CB, a forum and a proper blog into these templates you will find competitors who focus on integrated features and not just colour changes 🙂 will have an advantage.

I’m disappointed that it’s another one of these ‘grunge’ style sites. I was quiet looking forward to maybe seeing a Business/Corporate style template this month. At a quick glance its like a cross between Sanidine(Top) and Zinc(Content).
I’m sure it will be a fine template when it’s released but hopefully the one after will be something totally different.

February 24, 2009 at 1:42 pm #293253It’s a bit of a step back, I totally agree with scotty, and the previous comments, very really looked forward to maybe a better, fresher, clean cut business styled template.

February 24, 2009 at 4:24 pm #293274Its the subtle things that people miss on the first look that make me like this simply from the preview.
Each section seems nicely weighted down with the others, so that nothing is fighting for attention, everything just seems to fit.
The “Sign in” “Sign up” buttons will probably use the same java/ajax that the business Cooper template uses, which again, is a nice, subtle effect that promotes a professional look, as apposed to the “Look what fancy stuff we can do” look that other sites throw out.
What I did’nt like about the original Cooper look, was that it was too “In your face” and too cluttered. The business versions of the site, actually smoothed things out. Looked nicer, and had small, nice little touches that helped the site look more than a fancy brochure.
If Joomlart continues making usable templates, as apposed to “Eye Candy” ones, im quite happy to stick with them. Some of the newer templates that other sites have made (RT for example) are too busy, too arty, and distract from what the website really should be. The content.
I would personally choose Cooper or JA Opal (even from the preview) over Akiraka or Virtigo (which both boasted really catching Eye Candy)
I would like to see more VM based Templates, or even CB ones, as the ones they have done, have been some of the best on the market.

I agree with you. RT templates are too crowded and load slow. JA templates are REALLY practical. I already have few ideas how to fully utilise JA templates to create my new company.
Because the right way to create a website is “SEO or SEM —-> Web Design ——> Ranking ——> Traffic. Do marketing, keywords research first, then design website”. And, I evaluate templates from SEO point of view first, then go for design. And I believe JA templates make it easier for me to modify their templates to suit it. 🙂
Simple, neat, don’t be too colorful, load faster. That’s why I want. 🙂
Just one request. Hope each time JA Team release new template, pls release light version or light background. Thank you very much!

February 25, 2009 at 2:13 pm #293381Hey guys / Hung
I think this template is a grower – the more you come back to the forums to look at it – the more it grows on you.
If the template isn’t exactly what you wanted, remember – you can always customize. 😀
I think it’s quite nice. Can’t wait to see what designs are put forward in the showcase section.

February 25, 2009 at 4:07 pm #293393I just want to come back to my initial suggestion for some “Google Video Ads Position”.
I have the thought that may be very interesting for Google Ads users to not just have one plain module position for related sports advertising via Google, but to simply implement a second instance of the JA Tabs module like in the upper left region serving the needs for Google Video Ads, this way an operator of a site cannot only have one targeted video ad on the side while more in dfifferent locations would take away useful space on the site, but can implement 3 in one JA Tabs module. Here you can add one tab with sports retail ads, one for sports health related ads and maybe one further for general sports related Google Video Ad content.
I haven’t seen an out of the box Google Video Module with tabs like this in any club before, so I think this would be one definite pluspoint.
It is mostly about providing such tweaks as such basic add-ons, so users who never had this idea maybe, will love to see that JA brings them something like this, as also when they could do it alone later, when they do not get the idea and solution provided, they may not do it. And marketing wise, this will bring some more customers to get this template when you offer it the right way ——-> JA Tabs for Google Video Ads
Thanks! Hope you like the idea….;)

February 25, 2009 at 10:42 pm #293449JA has a great set of extensions and I hope this time around they can all be showcased in the templates. I do agree that the grunge and dark themes are starting to get old. I would like see a more cleaner look and definitely more templates for business themes. The cleaner looks doesn’t have to be boring. Try utilizing the extensions to enhance the user experience.
As far as the template, I guess if there is a big sports crowd out there. I would have to see more screen shots to see if it could work for a different type of business. Although the module header ribbons look allot like the MixMag template from RT. The big question is how long before this one is out. It seem like Cooper to forever and it still wasn’t polished.

I tend to agree time the extensions that are already available were utilised more in the templates and new ones would be a selling point, Then again completelynew templates and not addon colours to existing stuff or remakes of previous stuff . . .
