I’m almost embarassed to include my humble (first) attempt at a Joomla site. I used the JA Pyrite template and as I have said elsewhere, if it wasn’t for the great help files I’d have been out of my depth.

I was after a bit of an old fashioned, regular, html looking site. Content is more important to me than having a website with 20 different boxes with 3 lines in each. I have tried to keep image sizes reasonably small and not have too many (although there will be a few more coming). I also personally dislike scrolling endlessly to read a page so I have tried to avoid that.

Anyway – go easy on me.

I like it! Nice header customization, the menus look good and overall a nice looking site. Good job for an avid Joomla user.

Content is the key..I find your site a good read!!

You see your site is going down really well and for someone who is “healing the world one person at a time.” I am amazed you found the time to build another website.

I would personally like to see some borders around your images there are tons of tutorials out there on the internet explaining how this is done and with a little effort your photo’s can look fabulous.

I play around with photoshop and they have a great tutorial site….find it here

But hey these are only things I would do…I’m not saying your site needs it 😉

Anyway keep up the great work and welcome to JoomlArt 😀

Nice job Glenis! 🙂 I’m getting ready to attempt a site with this template too. Hopefully it will go as smooth for me as it did you.

    Welcome to the forum!

thanks for the tip Phil, always good to get some feedback, some things aren’t obvious until they get point out then you think “Well of course it would look better with borders why didn’t I think of that”. Keep them coming. I’ll go get that organised in a day or 2. Having had some success with this one, I’m now going to attempt an ecommerce one.

thanks Jessica! It will change as I learn but I’m not unhappy for a first attempt. I’m sure yours will be much better than my simple try.

The great thing is that 99.99% of people who will go to my site will not know that I made some small modifications to a template and created something that I’m not embarrassed to hang out as my ‘welcome to my business’ sign. the Joomlart templates allow us to portray a professional look without huge investments of money and time. We can have the look immediately and improve it if we want over time. the whole process of creating this, for me, was almost stress free, I’m very grateful for that!

Good luck with your site, look forward to seeing it soon

The site can connect ( or shall we say “reconnect”) with those who may want to use your services.

It could do with some borders or shades around the images.

Also maybe a little bit more colorful graphics here and there to spice things up

    Very interesting content

Thanks for the comments Patrick. Point taken about the images – I’ll find some more and I’ll put some drop shadows around them just to make them pop out of the page a bit.

It’s interesting work to do and amazingly effective for some people – one day I hope to make it my real job but building a client list takes time. Eventually I’ll get some time to write up some of the healings I have done.

This is very true. Some of us on the forum are always anxious to see how other members have made modifications. What many members have to realize is, JA Templates are made (for the most part) to be a quick solution for those with limited web experience. It’s only the small handful of us who take it to the extreme with modifications. One of the reasons I made few changes with the Pariiti template is because I loved the way it looked out the box. So far it is the least modified template of the ones we’ve worked with.

Good luck with the image suggestion. Personally, I like adding touches to my graphics and images too. It is important that the home page grab the visitor. Often that is achieved with artwork and catchy images. A first impression can be vital.

I love your Journal! I didn’t read the site – no time this week, but your first impression is awesome. I’m sure it’s on the showcase somewhere, I’ll be sure to go and have a little rave about it LOL

You’re a scrapbooker? – and have incorporated that style really well into the pages. Very clever indeed.

Thank you. 🙂 What started out as a memorial site for our daughter has turned into my new playground. Oh well… it gives me a place to dabble. And no, the site has never been showcased. Not sure why… just never added it.

As jwellman say’s that Joomlart is a quick solution and easy for non-developers to make a site. The most important thing to remember I think are:

    • It needs to grab the eye, but don’t give your customers an eye strain
    • Check your target base is it rural, city, local, provincial/State, country or global
    • Make sure your site is built for your main customers internet capabilities, if needed do research on your target area…Dial-up etc…yes parts of the world still have dial-up

I think you did a great job on the site.

    Loads fast
Has some flash with the rotating images at the top

    Hope the site does well.

    James;)
