Hello JA Forum

Ok to make a long story short. I just blew up my site trying to install a pda iphone plugin. Everything is still there except the default JA Quartz template does not display anymore. Can anyone please give me advice on how to reinstall.

If I re-install the Quickstart package will it overwrite all of my programming and custom coding? And will it destroy my menu structure and components?

Please advise,

Romello

To start with you can try to replace index.php of your current template with the one supplied with original template pack. See if it helps.

TAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR FILES BEFORE REPLACING OR DELETING THEM. Sorry for all caps, but its very important to take backup.

• Reinstalling your template will take away all your template customization.
• Menu items wont be affected but you might have to choose the menu type (css menu or suckerfish menu or whatever).
• As per my experience Components are not affected by reinstall of the template in which they have functioned normally.

Not sure what that pda plugin changed or could chane. If i were you, i would have compared the files with the clean template pack.

Might sound silly, but did you uninstall that pda plugin?

No point telling you this now, but make it a habit to backup your site before experimenting new stuff, also do check the support forums of the any new stuff to have an idea of probable outcomes.

Hello Mark,

Thanks for you response. I want to be certain on a couple of points.

1. I understand install template index.php. Is it okay to install index.php from the JA Quartz quickstart package. If possible I’d really like to work on the same layout with modules and content in place.

2. Yes I uninstalled the pda pluggin and template but that did not solve the problem.

Best regards,

Clarification on your points.

1. Replace index.php from quickstart package in your site. Take a backup of your old index.php. See if it helps.
2. Layout, modules and layout should not be affected as they are controlled through template.css file.
3. Incase replacing index.php doesnot help. replace the old index.php. It wont do any harm.

Can you provide the name or link of pda plgin used, that would be useful to search for the alterations it made after installation, such as, whetherthe changes were made only to your template index.php or did it also affect the joomla’s index.php.

p.s. if your earlier post was in response to my reply, you can call me arvind instead of “Mark”. ;p

Hello Arvind,

Sorry for the delay. Okay I backed up the site and changed index.php but that did not help. What happens if I upload the entire quickstart package again. I have a backup.

I don’t have the name for the pda. the link was thru the component. If you want I’ll look it up again. Thanks for info.

Best regards,

Uploading the quickstart package, means a new brand demo site.

I am NO Joomlart Support Member. but if you are comfortable and provide me ftp access, may be i can help. You can PM me the details if its fine with you.

A link / url of your site will also be of great help.

Hi Guys
Before worrying about all the reinstall stuff, has the OP contacted his host and asked if they have a site backup of the site prior to the trouble? some hosts backup weekly some nightly usually overwriting the existing backup if your host backs up weekly say on fridays and it’s not been a weeks since the trouble . . .

contact support etc first before screwing with a reinstall etc
Just my advise

Thanks ShannonN for the advice, just had a look around the guy’s site. Wasn’t of much help.

Had set up a demo of quickstart on my localhost and was just comparing the files.

this is the from the page source :
<link rel=”stylesheet” href=”/templates/system/css/system.css” type=”text/css” />
<link rel=”stylesheet” href=”/templates/system/css/general.css” type=”text/css” />
<link rel=”stylesheet” href=”/templates/rhuk_milkyway/css/template.css” type=”text/css” />
<link rel=”stylesheet” href=”/templates/rhuk_milkyway/css/blue.css” type=”text/css” />
<link rel=”stylesheet” href=”/templates/rhuk_milkyway/css/blue_bg.css” type=”text/css” />
<!–>
<link href=”/templates/rhuk_milkyway/css/ieonly.css” rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” />
No matter to what one change the default template. It still points to rhuk_milkyway template.

Joomla’s index.php is fine and so is the template’s index.php. Tried with disabling sh404, cleaning cache etc… No luck.

FTP details were not working, so there was very little i could use.

He has manually deleted the pda component / plugin folders. :p

I hope the backup from yesterday was prior to all the trouble 🙂 I had a similar problem got a backup only to find they had overwritten a good site with the troubled site when they backed up, please check it’s working fine 😉

That was helpful. Btw ShannonN any insight over where the problem might be?

Absolutely none! Once the OP posted he had host support restore from a backup ( which hopefully fixed the prob) I moved on and didn’t bother anymore:)
