I don’t think a module (or two or three) waiting for data from external sites can be the answer here.
The bottom line- I have a pretty fast site using Joomla 1.5.22 and Kyanite II. No problems, love it. Then, I clone the site, install the JAT framework and Rave template, and customize. I put the site up live, but it gets pulled down by my ISP for rocking the CPU usage past 25%. Additionally, I and other users notice that each page takes 20-30 seconds to load.
No amount of minifying the code, enabling caching, and all the other tricks changes anything, both from the point of view of the ISP (CPU) usage, or the end user.
I’ll probably wait until Rave gets updated to J1.6, then test on it. If things are better I may transition to Rave under J1.6- then I get the new version of Joomla and Rave at the same time.
