April 16, 2012 at 6:45 pm #176189We built a Joomla 1.7 site for our client on our LAMP server using JA Rave as the template, then migrated the site to their Windows server. It worked great on our side, then does not load on their side.
The admin pages load, so I know the database is connected correctly. However, the frontend does not load.
I have tried disabling cache, clearing cache, etc., with no luck. If I switch to a different template, it DOES work…so the issue appears to be with the template…JA Rave.
We’re under extreme pressure to get this site launched ASAP (of course) so if you could take a look at this we would certainly appreciate it.
Thanks.

April 16, 2012 at 6:51 pm #448566First things first, you need to update your Joomla install and all the JA components to the latest releases. Joomla 1.7 has not been supported for a while now by Joomla.org and neither can we as a result. Besided, there are some known security problems with that version.
Once you have overcome that hurdle come back if you are still having problems and we will see if we can help between us.

April 16, 2012 at 6:52 pm #448568We have already updated 1.7 to 1.7.5 which was the last 1.7. However, the client is not willing to go to 2.5 so we’re stuck at the 1.7 level. Are you saying that if we do not migrate to 2.5 you can’t help?

April 16, 2012 at 7:22 pm #448577Yes sadly. Joomla 1.7 is no longer supported. Also as said earlier, there was a major security problem with it that will not be fixed by Joomla.org. As a result we can no longer support it either.

April 16, 2012 at 7:25 pm #448580According to your website:
http://www.joomlart.com/joomla/templates/showcase#page3
JA Rave works on 1.7. Apparently your site is not completely correct as it only works on some servers and is not supported by you if there is an issue.
OK, I’ll try to convince the client to move to 2.5 and we’ll contact you again. Otherwise, we’ll give up on JA Rave and use some other template.

April 16, 2012 at 7:46 pm #448605Again, we see this as a template issue (since another template works fine on this site) and not a Joomla issue. I have almost convinced the client to move to 2.5, but I dont’ really see the point unless you can tell me that JA Rave should work on a Windows server. Do you know whether this has been tested?

April 16, 2012 at 7:56 pm #448609You have a couple of issues, a Joomla issue and a server issue. The template will run if the server is configured properly. If the display is blank there could be a number of reasons for it such as lack of memory, lack of support of a particular PHP extension such as PHP c_url or a number of reasons but it will work on a Windows server. The page you see is a little out of date with the “1.7” wording but will be updated. Researching into your problem could be done but I personally am not willing to work on a version that Joomla.org do not support for some very good reasons. I could even prove it to you and hack your site if you wish? I could do it in under 10 minutes but that really would get us nowhere. Believe me, your client must update, to not do so would leave them open to big problems.

April 16, 2012 at 8:55 pm #448625That’s one of the oddest responses I’ve ever received on a support ticket. No, thank you, we do not need our site hacked. Can you tell me whether your JA Rave template has been tested with Joomla 2.5 on a Windows server? If not, we can all move on and we’ll try another template. Or, if this template is known to work with that scenario we’ll upgrade the client (and explain why to them later) and try this again.

April 16, 2012 at 9:20 pm #448627Yeah, I know it was odd, just trying to tell you how serious it is. Instructions were posted all over the web and any competent user can do this in a couple of minutes. To be fair to Joomla this is the first such problem to come up since J1.0.x so they have been very good.
Both J1.7 and J2.5 versions will work on a windows server as long as it is configured well to run. As stated earlier, once you have updated if you run into problems we will be happy to try and assist with the server setup. Small things can prevent any template or J install from working. Memory limit is the usual suspect but there are other things that can also cause a blank page. Once you have updated then we can go through the debug process should you run into problems.
Make sure you update the JA Extension manager before updating the JA Plugin and all the other JA products using the JA Extension manager. You can update Joomla itself from the back end of Joomla with a couple of clicks. We have seen problems with that on certain hosts so personally I prefer to do that the old fashioned ftp method.

April 16, 2012 at 11:36 pm #448631Great…we did the 2.5 upgrade on our side, worked out the minor kinks, and we are now migrating the site to their server again. Thanks again, I’ll post here to let you know if it’s working or if we need assistance to get it working. Cheers!

April 17, 2012 at 1:54 am #448641OK, got the site upgraded to 2.5.4 and we’re still not able to view the front end (back end works fine) with the JA Rave template. The URL has changed, however. Let me know how to send you the URL privately and I’ll get that to you ASAP. My theory is that it’s something in the configuration file…thanks!

April 17, 2012 at 6:21 am #448678If you could send me the details via PM and I will take a look for you. A super admin logon and an ftp account would be needed. Please include a link to this thread in your PM so I can find it again quickly.

April 17, 2012 at 1:25 pm #448736Thanks for your PM.
I’ve taken a quick look with the admin details and it appears your are running this under Wamp? Not sure thise was really designed for use as a live web server but having said that I know that this template will run under Wamp but you will need to enable PHP c_url support. There may be some other issues which we can look at after you have dealt with the stuff below.
Here is what you need to do first. All of your JA products are a long way out of date and not in fact compatible with Joomla 2.5.4. You will need to use the JA Extension Manager to update all of those before we continue.

April 17, 2012 at 6:16 pm #448776That was the ticket…PHP c_url was not enabled. Once we did this and tweaked a few minor things, it’s working. Thanks again! You can close this ticket.
