    Hi, trying to use Ja side News in positions 1, 2 and 3 of this template and when user selects the link from this module I would like to go to a page which opens the article up in the template.
    Currently the link goes back to the homepage and doesn’t display the article. I am aware that this template from the homepage has no maincontent area by default, is there a way where I can set a custom id in the JA side news module to open this article in a new page.

    Ie with std id url =

    /index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=22:rediscover-an-old-golfing-friend&catid=85:side-news&Itemid=101

    itemid=101 displays the homepage, I want the url to go to itemid=606 which displays my article on its own. (news id from mainmenu)

    I have tried to add to the module .xml file

    <field
    name=”customitemid”
    type=”text”
    default=”0″
    label=”Set Itemid”
    description=”Set custom Itemid, if set 0 used current Itemid” />

    and when in the module within joomla set a custom id of 606, however the itemid is not changed in the url, is this possible with this module on joomla 2.5 or do I need to look elsewhere.

    That is a standard feature of Joomla to some extent. Every module or article must have a menu assigned to it (on a category level, you do not need to create a menu item for every article). The meu does not need to be displayed anywhere, just published in the back end. If an article is in a category without a menu item assigned to that category Joomla does not know what to do with it so opens it in the same page so to speak. As you have found, if that page hides the main content area then you will see nothing frustratingly. We all run into that from time to time but there are many simple workarounds. The easiest is to create a new menu with the item of category blog layout for whatever category your articles are in. If you need help or a more detailed explanation I am happy to help.

    Phil,
    thanks for the response, I have created a sublink from the main menu to the specific article, followed the link from main menu and thats what I expect to see and I agree, however when I follow the link from JA side news I go back to the homepage.

    The only thing that I forgot to mention is that I am using flexicontent, which does use com content

    Still confusing me, however I have come across the situation that you mention previously.

    Can I add a custom id to the module in the method that I am using or not?

    I am not too familiar with the code behind this particular module so I will check with the dev team. I will create a ticket for you. When you get an email from the ticket system please update your ticket with your website information so the team can investigate more deeply.

    Hi Ian,

    I’m not familiar with flexicontent since I often use default Joomla content and K2. If possible, you can pm me admin & FTP account of your site, I will try to check if I can help.
