I just installed a a new Joomla instance w/JaOpal quickstart.
The site is in a sub folder called ‘site’
/www.domain.com/public_html/site/
I am getting the following 2 errors:

ja-slideshow – Warning: mkdir() [function.mkdir]: Permission denied in /home/shb9_256/domain.com/public_html/site/modules/mod_jaslideshow2/helper.php on line 94
When I go into the ja-slideshow module and set Navigation to ‘none’ this error goes away; but I wand the thumbnail navigation.

Why is it that for both errors it is giving me the full path including the ‘/home/shb9_256/’?

A link to the site would be useful. Your screenshot is too small to read. It sounds like directory permission error. Try setting up recursive 777 on the images folder and check again.
slideshow needs “resized” folder to be created and writable, which i suppose is not available.
You can also edit your first post and check the “Require help from Mod” and enter your ftp and admin details, so that we can have a look and try to correct the permission problem.
To Show the directory structure that is required (generally auto generated when installing) :
If the above directory structure is not present in your /images folder. Manually create them and assign 755 permission. If 755 does not work then try 777. Sometimes you may need to check the Folder ownership also.
