    Hi,

I’m trying to install the JA Social 2.5 quickstart package, but it doesn’t seem to want to progress beyond step 4 (installing tables in db). The DB details are definitely correct, as it does give an error message if I change them to something incorrect.

Can anyone shed some light please?

    Thanks,

    George

Not without seeing it. I have just tested this install on my machine here as all appears to be fine.

Please show exactly what happens when you try to install.

    Hi Phill,

It just displays the rotating wheel to show that it is supposedly busy processing, but it stays like that without going on to the next step…

Have you tried a standard Joomla 2.5 install on the same location? Our quickstart at this point in the Job is the normal Joomla installer. The only point ours changes is with the “insatal sample data” button.

    Hi Phill,

I have tried with a standalone Joomla 2.5, and it installs fine.

I have also tried to install the JA Social quickstart on another web host, but I get the same problem.

<blockquote>Our quickstart at this point in the Job is the normal Joomla installer. The only point ours changes is with the “insatal sample data” button.</blockquote>

I don’t think it’s exactly the same, as I’m guessing the quickstart also installs Kunena tables and possibly others, although I’m not sure whether or not this is related to the reason for the problem.

<blockquote>Which version are we talking about here, the Joomla 1.5 version ot the Joomla 2.5 version as both are mentioned in this thread.</blockquote>

Personally I was referring to version 2.5. That’s a typo in the title of the thread which I’d be grateful if you could amend. But out of curiosity, I tried to install the 1.5 quickstart and it passed step 4 okay, but I’d prefer to install v2.5 as maintenance of v1.5 will sooner or later be stopped.

    Thanks,

    George

I have tried installing JA Social on 3 different servers (the J2.5 version) and I cannot replicate what you guys are seeing.

What versions of PHP and MySql are you using? Not that it should make a difference. If you can edit your php.ini files but if you can enable all the error reporting to the highest levels then you should be able to see exactly what the errors are.

One other test, if you have WAMP installed can you install on localhost?

Yes, sure. If you could PM me an administrator account, all your ftp details and all your MySql details I will install the template for you.

The server is running PHP 5.2.9, and MySQL 5.0.92. I asked the web host to enable the max level or reporting in PHP, but it made no difference; the script just seems unresponsive..

Have you tried switching between “MySQL” and “MySQLi” – the first field within Step 4?

(just a shot in the dark …. worth a shot)

Hi Tom, I’ve tried this but unfortunately it didn’t work either..
