For all intents and purposes, you can use the User Guide for J1.6.
You’ll find that the majority of things you want/need to accomplish are pretty much the same.

Just wondering why no mention of it is listed in this forum as a reference being as I cannot seem to find the 1.6 version anywhere.

All of our J1.6 templates have been updated for J1.7 – given the fact that J1.6 is no longer supported by Joomla!

The User Guide linked for you above contains the information you need to work with your JA Social J1.7 template.

The User Guide linked for you above…? I see no links in this post to any user guide? Please post it in the body of the thread.

    Thanks Tom,

I’ve also spent some time going through the various videos offered by JoomlArt and while they make mention of the ACL and state that they will come back to a full explanation of it I’ve yet to find any other tutorial videos that have been published on this topic. Any ideas here on this?

The ACL is 100% joomla issue and I won’t begin to try to explain it as my grasp is marginal. Its extremely powerful ergo kinda complex. I know there are some excellent articles on it. Artof User – Extended User Manager ( ignore the page the site is right ) would be a prime place to start.

Well that is highly disappointing! Seriously, an article on how a Joomla extension functions?! Not trying to be discourteous but if I am following a given video tutorial series and they say they will come back to it in another video then don’t what do you expect your users to think? Why bother to say in your videos that you will come back to this most important topic in future videos then don’t? I realize this is 100% Joomla but isn’t that the nature of this entire side of your business? We often times hear how simple this all is and how Joomla is for anyone with the desire to learn CMS. Then when it comes to tuts that message seems to get lost. Sad!

Have you tried researching this issue yourself – via Google, the Joomla.org Message Boards/Wiki or other resources?

Seems you are unfairly and inappropriately chastising JoomlArt for an issue that is part of the core JOOMLA CMS and not a “JoomlArt” product issue.

Working with Joomla can be simple – especially for those willing to put in the effort to research and learn.
As a Developer Level Member, one would assume this as a given.

I encourage you to read THE THREE “P’s” – PATIENCE, PRACTICE & PERSEVERANCE

Actually I am continually searching for further information on this. I brought this up purely because of the wording used in a JoomlArt video tut that mentioned the ACL and stated they would come back to this later in another JoomlArt video so I don’t feel that I am being unfair at all given what JoomlArt stated in this video. So the search continues…
