Joomal is powerful and there so many components and modules wow.And so many free and a few paid one.

Hold on there yes there lots you can do and use,however are you aware that each new component or module you install will create 18 to over 700 sql queries?
Sql queries will slow down your site to a crawl and some modules or component once enter to database will not be removed just because you took it out.

As a newbie in joomla too I learn the hard way.Had nice theme with paid news module that cause my sites to jump from 67 query to 116 query I though the speed would not be that much different.Then update arrived and jump to 789 query just for 1 component.

That was insane thank goodness it seem the God of joomlart also notice this problem for web site that propagates news.and the child of Ja Telinine arrived

I have 2 news site.

and
http://independent-news-service.com/

Both site are not the same even though they use the same template.

dndtalk.ca focus on today news in general (politics) generating 89 query on main page.

To accomplish that I tar ball my site delted all database and httpdocs directory and did a fresh install of Joomla then uploaded the template,added my category and sections,followed direction for modules creation.And made sure not to go overboard with any extra modules or component to increase my sql query.
Note To see your sql query log to back end admin home/global configuration last entry is debug then that on and open another tab to your site to see how many you have.If you have more then 110 better trim down your pluings.Or you will chew on resources.

Now http://independent-news-service.com/ is a complete different style of news it as politics,also others news feeds from http://www.freshcontent.net pulling around 25 feeds.and another news sources.
All that bring me only to 79 query.
So what I am trying to say with the right template and common sense your visitor will have a great time fast loading site.If you have a web host or colo server at some time your provider may shut you down for excessive usage of the resources.So be warn.

Now history about me I use to work in IT department was in the group that started virtual servers webspider,what it was if you hack into gorverments computer and your ip was from outside our poll it would send you to a virtual hard drive full of fake data and will keep security door lock till you crack to 3rd level once there you were online on our system till polica arrived at your door as you could not disconnect .
However in 2000 had 2 brain stroke and lost 80 % of my memory 95 % of my language and could not even understand french my native language.I recover from that and after years of therapy was able to function some what.

In 2005 was again in verge of a stroke doctors intervene in time however a new and extremely rare blood disorder that cause my problem it so rare that only 25 people had been diagnose with it.The down side no medications and as time go you get strokes or Alzheimer or die.

So now have stage 1 Alzheimer,with a touch of dementia,my type of dementia is comprehension so what ever I do is hard for me to understand and take more time.

So what i am trying to say if I can do it you surely can and the support here are great.
