All JA templates for Joomla 1.5 that I have in use break in IE8, requiring quick and dirty fixes like this: http://blogs.msdn.com/frankfi/archive/2009/02/18/why-if-gt-ie-6-is-so-bad.aspx

(For the most part, you can change the gte IE7 checks to lte.)

Is there any plan to do proper updates of existing JA templates so they work in IE8?

From my experience, those IE8 fixes by Joomlart.com, provided by the JA Development team will only work when you did not do a lot of changes to the templates. I tried it with one site that I started to build before any type of IE8 bug fixes by Joomlart.com were applied and added the tweaks, e.g. code in index.php and ie8.css, you can find in all current JA Templates when downloaded, but due to my customizations this did not work out anymore and I also think that as soon changing a lot in the templates, one has to take care of this type of fixing on one’s own or be glad when the added fixes to the basis templates still work in the customized ones.

You may give it a try and simply download the templates you use again, and look for certain IE8 related codes in the index.php for example and the ie8.css in the css folder etc.. Those are the official JA IE8 fixes already applied to the templates like beginning this year. Yet anyone has to implement those on the own and when it works great, otherwise check again if any mods you made with the template cause that the provided ones do not work or ask Joomlart.com again if they have some even newer ones.

With checking out the demo site here you will see that most the newest and a lot of old ones too, are already compatible to IE8 and so the IE8 fixes applied work in those ones at least.

when creating a website, a developer should be creating a “change log”, so that they can keep track of every line of code and every file that has been changed. It will save a lot of time and grief.

maybe I should make this Mikes rule number 5

you don’t need a change log, just comment your changes or else later do a comparison of differences between your version and original/JA versions.

Will JA work on a firefox app? I haven’t tried much but I was wondering if it would also work with other browser such as Safari and Opera? Your responses would be of great help.

    Thanks.

I believe there is a patch/plug in for this issue? I have read it once in this forum though.
