How can one persuade JA Thumbnail plugin to create a suitable thumbnail image for a Vimeo (or other video) in category/blog view?

I’m afraid it is not possible. JA Thumbnail plugin supports to render thumbnail from image only, not video.

Thanks, Saguaros. Another request for Teline 5 🙂

I put a line of text and a “readmore” divider above the vimeo tags and it hides the video “image” in the category blog view.

By default, the category blog view in Joomla also doesn’t display thumbnail of video. You can confirm the same by trying to switch default template to another standard template of Joomla like Beez.

I’m sorry for not much of help here but I will report this to development team for further consideration.

I should imagine that deriving a .jpg from a video frame is standard stuff in video album components. Youtube create thumbs of the screen content without the frame etc. automatically. The only small difference I see is that the content on Youtube is on a Youtube server, whereas an AllVideos plugin tag may link to remote content. We almost never upload video content, except to Youtube 🙂

Like Youtube, Vimeo also supports to render thumbnail. The important point is how to get this thumbnail and this should be done by extension which loads that video (AllVideos plugin or our JA Content Popup, etc…).
