I’m running Joomla 3.4.1 with JA University T3. I have four template layouts defined, two for English and two for German. I have a home and a default layout for each language. The home layouts are used for the two news frontpages (http://therebel.is/en/news and http://therebel.is/de/news) to suppress the Joomla blog layout and display the JA Featured New and the JA News Pro modules instead, which are only enabled for the same two news frontpages.

Today, my site has suddenly stopped switching between the default and the home layouts. It ALWAYS displays the default layout.

It also has stopped showing the German language main menu (“Top Menu – Deutsch”). It only shows the English language main menu (“Top Menu – English”) for the “English – Home” and “English – Default” layouts.

P.S.: I don’t know whether this is related. My site no longer opens any links to the EasyDiscuss component. Both problems started at the same time, after upgrading the jLike and the jBolo! extensions. Disabling and uninstallign jLike and jBolo! didn’t fix either problem (template layout switching and EasyDiscuss links not opening)

I have login backend site and set both Search Engine Friendly URLs and Use URL Rewriting options under Global Configuration like as the screenshot below

The problem on your site is fixed.

You must have done something else to make it work, because now it’s back to no longer working. I didn’t realise that you had fixed it and noticed – by chance – that the selected template layout was no longer “Home”, but “Two-Sided”, and changed it back, thinking that it got accidentally changed. Sorry. As a result, the problems with not switching layout and not showing the German language menu has returned. I now changed it back to “Two Sided” but it made no difference.

Btw, the EasyDiscuss has meanwhile been fixed by repairing the database in the MySQL Database control panel. However the problems with the template layouts not switching, the JA Feature News and JA News Pro module not showing on the news frontpages and the German language top menu not being displayed with the German template layouts haven’t gone away.

@andrewwinkler: I still could not get the problem on your site, please give me the screenshot and describe on that, it would help to understand the issues and give you specific answers.

Here’s something better: A 9min video demonstration of the problem.

Yes, it’s very clear about the problem of you mentioned above.

But when I checked the New menu on your site but I could not see content-mass-top position to show on front-end site, see the screenshot

I need to check Home layout on your site and make sure content-mass-top position to show in front-end site

Yes, neither JA News Featured nor JA News Pro are displayed as they are supposed to, nor is the main content block with the Joomla blog layout suppressed as it should. That leads me to believe that the site does NOT switch between template layouts as it is meant to do. That would also explain why no menu is displayed when switching to the German side of the site. When switching the “Default English” template layout tries to display the “Top English” menu, but can’t because the language setting for “Top English” is “English” not “All”. In other words, something is preventing the site from switching between template layouts.

@andrewwinkler: Please pm me FTP account of your hosting, I will check home and default layouts directly on your site, maybe I will find the solution.

I’ve sent you the ftp details via PM. By the way, I just noticed that the problem with the template not displaying the German menu only occurs when I ‘m logged in. If I’m not logged in, it does display the German menu.

However, the JA News Featured and JA News Pro modules are still not displayed instead of the Joomla article layout as they should for the http://therebel.is/en/news and http://therebel.is/de/news link (“News” menu option of the top/main menu), regardless of whether I’m logged in or not.

I’ve reinstalled the JA University T3 template. That got rid of all the customisation, such as moving the left sidebar to the right and reducing its width, however it did NOT fix the problem of the template not switching between the English Default and the English Home layout, nor did it get rid of the problem of the template not switching between the English Default and the German Default template layout respectively the template not switching between the English Home and the German Home template layout.

I’m not fussed about having sidebar-1 on the left of the main content area. But right now, the main content area is not wide enough. I need sidebar-1 to be narrower, and the main content area wider instead.

I’ve overwritten the reinstalled template with the version stored on my computer in Dreamweaver. That got me back my customisations such as the sidebar-1 position and width, but it didn’t fix the problem of my template layouts not switching between English-Default, English-Home, German-Default and German-Home. It therefor also didn’t fix the problem that the (German) megamenu is not displayed on the German side. (The English mega menu is obviously not displayed on the German side either, because its items are set to be displayed in English only, not “All”.)

I spent a lot of my time to detecting the problem on your site. Now, I fixed some the problems on your site.

+ Change width large layout on your site from 980px to 1200px

+ Add “content-mass-top” position into News menu page and you can see JA News Featured and JA News Pro module are showing on your site

You can check it again, let me know if it helps

I only just saw your previous message. I was wondering why the main content area is suddenly wider. It’s great, thanks for that. I hope that doesn’t make the ipad page too wide though. Before the ipad layout had the perfect width. I’ll check it later.

And yes, the JA News Featured and the JA News Pro modules are now being displayed on top of the main news page. However the page is still not using the correct the “English – Home” template layout, because the main content block with the Joomla blog layout content is still displayed underneath. If the page was using the “English – Home” template layout and not “English – Default”, the main content block wouldn’t be displayed.

The switching between the English and the German layout still doesn’t work properly either. When I switch to the German side, it will display the correct content, but no German menu. However, if I then refresh the page or log out, the German template layout is being loaded and the German menu is correctly displayed.

It’s very strange with the problem Home – English and Home – German template styles on your site, when I set

    + SEO Settings

    Search Engine Friendly URLs: No
    Use URL Rewriting: No

    + Session Settings

Session Handler: None

The URL on your site is changed to joomla default but all template styles: Home – English and Home – German template styles are working as well.

You can help me to check it again.

Btw, what did you customize for the URL or install other SEO extension on your site?
