    You are right. The moment I set

    Search Engine Friendly URLs: No
    Use URL Rewriting: No
    Session Handler: None

    the problem with the German template not being loaded goes away, right away.

    Not only that, the problem with the template layout not switching from English – Default to English – Home and therefor displaying the main content block with the Joomla blog layout underneath the JA New Featured and JA News Pro module, goes away too with those settings.

    I made no customisations to the URL and am only using standard Joomla search engine friendly URL and URL rewriting.

    By the way, last night, I refreshed Joomla 3.4.1 by overwriting it with a fresh download of the complete version (without the installation folder of course.) Obviously that didn’t’ fix the problem.’

    I also tried earlier to reinstall the template, but that didn’t make any difference either. It just got rid off my customisations.

    The easiest thing to do I guess would be to run the site with those 3 settings. Unfortunately, if I did that too many incoming links would get lost. I get thousands of hits on one day from other sites linking to me. I don’t want to piss them off by having all those links resulting in errors.

    There must be another way. There must be a way to make your template work on my site without turning off those three stock standard Joomla settings.

    The hosting firm has installed APC and I’ve enabled it in Joomla’s global configuration as the caching handler. I also tried enabling it as the session handler, but after doing so I could no longer into the backend of the site. I got stuck in the login screen, so I overwrote the configuration.php with a local copy and changed the global configuration to use APC only for caching.

    After that, I tested the site and found that it still won’t switch between template layout files.

    That’s weird. I just noticed that if I switch “Development Mode” OFF in the template with CSS compression enabled, then the page width goes back to the narrower default width. If “Development Mode” is ON, the width goes to 1200px, which is much better for my site.

    By the way, I would prefer it you put back the ../en/.. bit into the SEO URL on the English side of the site, the way it used to be.

    To summarise the situation with the template layout switching problem is that we have established that with the following Joomla Global Configuration settings:

    Search Engine Friendly URLs: No
    Use URL Rewriting: No
    Session Handler: None

    the switching between template layouts works fine. If any of the three above settings is on, the site does not switch the layout. When selecting German, the problem is not quite as bad because if you reload the page, the German template layout is used. However, when opening the main news page, the site will NOT switch from the “Default” to the “Home” layout, even if I reload the page.

    This situation is the same, whether I’m using Memcache, APC or none as caching handler in Joomla’s global configuration.

    Unfortunately, not using search engine friendly URLs and URL rewriting is not an option because there are too many external and internal links that would break.

    + Development Mode: ON: your site works with LESS files and width layout sets with 1200px

    + Development Mode: OFF: your site work with CSS files and maybe it loads width layout 980px

    I did not re-install JA University template. I only changed

    templates/ja_university_t3/less/variables.less
    templates/ja_university_t3/tpls/two-sidebar.php
    templates/ja_university_t3/tpls/blocks/two-sidebar.php

    Please backup that files before you process to re-install JA University template

    I have no plans to reinstall the template. I just really need your help with getting my template to switch between layouts as it is configured to do. It’s just not right that JA University T3 will not switch between template layouts unless the following settings are chosen in Joomla’s global configuration.

    Search Engine Friendly URLs: No
    Use URL Rewriting: No
    Session Handler: None

    THANK YOU SO MUCH, Ninja Lead. I suspect it was you who fixed the template switching problem. I also had JomSocial working on the case, although I was unconvinced that Jomsocial had anything to do with it. It’s just that the problems started at the same time as I upgraded their component.

    I don’t believe though it was them who fixed it, nor do I believe that all the speed optimisation work I’ve been doing all week has anything to do with it.

    I would love to find out what was the cause and how you fixed it.

    I also suspect it was you who squeezed the blank line with the “AAA” code on the top of the “Home” template layout. Probably to make it easier to tell whether the “Home” or the “Default” layout got loaded.

    There is only one more think – apart from removing the “AAA”‘s – that I would like to you to do. That’s getting me the ../en/.. bit back in my English URL’s. My readers and contributing authors are kind of fond of it, and are all worried about that it’s missing. So if possible, I would like to get the ../en/.. back. Thank you very much again.

    “AAA” text, this is my debug before that on Home layout on your site, I just removed it.

    About the problem on Jomsocial with JA University template, please let me know how can I see that bug? I will help you to find the solution.

    The template layout switching is fixed now. Thank you very much for your help. Even manual Jomsocial status updates and replies are suddenly working fine even with session caching enabled. Not sure why.

    I’ve been busy speed optimising my server and joomla site for days, until last night after installing jch-optimizer and jotcache at 1am my site suddenly went blank. The hosting company managed to get it working again by uninstalling APC and my site is now opening pages in 6 seconds, compared to 25-30 seconds last week.

    One things is still slightly wrong still and I need your help with it:

    The bottom part of my JA University T3 template (Teal) is displayed in black not green as it should. The top part is still okay. That could have something to do with me fixing the template width.

    You can change black bottom site to green with the solution below

    Open templates/ja_university_t3/css/custom.css file and add new rule

    .t3-bot-sl {
    background-color: #48a3a7 ;
    }

    .t3-footer {
    background-color: #48a3a7 ;
    }

    I don’t understand why I have to do that? I’m using the teal layout for the JA University T3 template, It should be in the green colour scheme, both on top and at the bottom. Why doesn’t that work anymore. There must be a better fix.

    Alternatively, I wouldn’t mind to use the same grey/black colour on top as at the bottom, as long as green bits like separation lines and field background colours are fixed. I quite like the small grey pattern on top of the black. It looks stylish.

    P.S.: Can I please have my ./en/.. bit back for my English language pages? Many thank.
