Looks great, like the idea behind it as well. How long was this idea in the works? Or is this just a new face lift?
Once again, great work. I did a site a few years back and need to update it to a nice Joomlart template. http://heworthlegion.ca
I am going to read some more.
🙂
OK, came back after reading some more. Looks as if you have been doing a bit of traveling… http://www.sgtslingsby.org/travels/military really like what I am seeing may add your banner to a few of my sites….
Once again, I like it. 😉
December 17, 2008 at 6:30 am #283184Thanks, the site has been active for about 4 months but I wanted to give it a refresh because the old one (still available at http://www.sgtslingsby.com) was looking a bid jaded. I am about to redirect the old site to the new one after running in parallel for a short while.
Thanks for the offer of a banner placement, by all means
The site is a showcase for our team of fundraising teddy bears that travel the world, raising awareness and funds for service community groups and charities.
We have some links with similar organisations in Canada

</blockquote>Awesome site! Congratulations. You should nominate this for the Site of the Month competition in January!

December 17, 2008 at 6:56 am #283191Wow, thanks Chris
I have been using Joomla for a couple of years now and I think I am finally beginning to get the hang of it although web design is something I do as a hobby I am proud of the last couple of sites I have done.

December 17, 2008 at 10:04 am #283206It is a nice hobby to have, but it look like you have mastered the art pretty well. It is a nice site, a great idea and beatiful colors. I agree it should be nominated for Site of the Month.

December 18, 2008 at 3:26 pm #283376Marvellous. A lovely idea and a nice site. I will pass the details on to many of my friends with military connections.
Possible typo in your Sgt Slingsby -Germany for Christmas article. Did you mean a tuck shop in hereford? Not herford. I’m not sure, but it struck me that it could be a typo, as I haven’t heard of herford.
December 19, 2008 at 12:31 pm #283482Thanks everyone, I am really quite overwhelmed by your positive feedback.
Ref Herford or Hereford, its definately Herford, Hereford is in the UK but Herford is definately in Germany

Yes, what happens? I have noticed that you get a badge to put next to your name on the forum, but are the other benefits that come with the title?

December 19, 2008 at 3:26 pm #283499Yes a very nice site indeed. I see you are suffering from the same bug as others where no matter which ‘cog wheel’ you hover over, the menu drops down from the first module.
Winners of the SOTM usually receive a 1 year developer license.

December 19, 2008 at 4:27 pm #283505I just had a look at this site again, and noticed that the last two menu items from the top menu, when hovered over, go under the picture on the “latest video” module. I cannot tell if About Us has any more links than the two I can see.

Thanks Scotty,
Bug, I thought this was a feature 🙂
Ref the menu on the first page and the fact that the flash video player sits above it yes, I was aware of this but not sure how to ensure that the menu appears on a layer above everything else. Does anyone have any ideas
Thanks

December 19, 2008 at 5:45 pm #283520Well it is a feature but it should drop for the cog wheel you scroll over – not just on the top left one.
RE: The video… Go to Admin backend>Extensions>Plugin Manager>Content – AllVideos Reloaded>Plugin Parameters>Flash Display Mode> and set to ‘Opaque’

December 20, 2008 at 7:29 am #283566I just happened to read this yesterday and thought of your site. I don’t know if you could use it at all, but here it is:
Back during World War II, a little boy and his daddy were driving home on Christmas Eve. They drove past rows of houses with Christmas trees and decorations in the windows. In many of the windows the little boy noticed a star. He asked his father, “Daddy, why do some of the people have a star in the window?” His daddy said that the star meant that the family has a son in the war. As they passed the last house, suddenly the little boy caught sight of the evening star in the sky. “Look, Daddy!—God must have a son in the war, too! He’s got a star in His window!”—James Hewett
Merry Christmas to you and all the fellows on your site.
