You have any specific features in mind for JA Wall 2?

Many.
But most important is that Ja_Wall can not stop in time. When Ja_Wall was launched there were many disappointments (thought it was like Pinterest, etc..), And now we are all happy?? I love Ja Wall, but I want more.
I want …
A layot ββmost practical, beautiful and intelligent, and more compatible with K2. Do not just create a new theme for Ja Wall, you need to fine tune the details. Above all the details.
The window to “Create Article”, could be much more practical and attractive, opening a small pop-up, as in Pinterest, for example.
Look at the wealth of detail on Pinterest, and compare with Ja Wall.
But I’m not suggesting a clone of Pinterest, because I think you can do better…bowman999 Friendbowman999

February 21, 2013 at 10:35 pm #484190For what it’s worth, here’s my wishlist for Wall 2 (in order of importance):
1. Joomla 3.X support
2. The ability for a user to add an article they see on the home page to their personal Joomla user/K2 profile/blog page (“Add this post” or “Pin this” button on every article).
3. Facebook/Twitter/Google user login options built into the template by default.
4. Inbuilt ability to add a “YouTube” or “Vimeo” video to the home page as a “playable” video. Not just a link to another page or pop up. Users could then play the video on the front page without going anywhere. You can do this on other responsive templates – including Pinterest of course. Makes the home page much more engaging.
5. Ability to add an article style (extended class) to an entire category at once. For example, if you could apply the entire “dark” extended class to an entire “Video” category by a single setting (rather than having to open every single article and adding the word “dark” repeatedly. This way “Video” articles would look one way, “Feature” articles another way, “Food” articles another way, etc., etc.
6. Ability to easily adjust the left hand column width in the back end.
7. Ability to turn off image resize for articles with small images that stretch badly.
8. More control over Hot, New and Free badges. For example, the ability to change the settings regarding what is considered to be a “New” articles. (e.g. one week, 2 hours, etc.)
9. Ability to have more than one badge per article. For example, an article could be both “New” and “Popular”, but at the moment only one badge per article can be displayed.
10. Google Analytic’s built into template (like default T3, Gantry, etc.)
11. Ability to mix and match theme elements. For example, say you like the “Read more” style from the “Default” theme, and wanted to use this on the “Colour Block” theme, you can select this from the backend. There would be an extra admin section for “theme style settings” for instance…
Cheers
John:)

February 21, 2013 at 10:52 pm #484192You have some interesting ideas there John. I’ll comment on a couple of them though.
3 : The login features really are IMHO better suited to a plugin rather than built into the template. Maybe adding a position for that kind of login element would be good but the actual feature is better suited to a simple Joomla plugin.
10: Again, adding this feature to the back end really is just adding extra code that is not needed. Using a plugin too in my mind just adds extra weight. I am happy to help people add their analytics code via detailed tutorials. As it is just a simple thing to add one line of code generated by google to a file it is just not worth the overheads of calling the code via a script.
11: That in my mind is something the developer of each site can do. Changing individual style elements is quite simple to do and adding that option to the back end would mean some extensive code which again may depending on how it was written add extra code that is not needed.

February 22, 2013 at 4:02 am #484213Fair enough about the styling and Google analytics. You are probably right about logins too. Just found a few modules on Joomla.org that provide this functionality easily. Will try a couple when I start building the 3.0 version.
PS – As a Support Member are you “in the know” regarding the Joomla 3.0 version? Is it getting close? Please say yes! π

Worked out number 5, how to do add playable/resizable videos to the front page. Works great:

The creators of templates are only concerned to launch new templates, but do not bother to meet our needs more specific. And as a result, we have thousands of templates, but none can fully meet our needs, and is always missing something. And this is very frustrating…Ja Wall is one of the best templates, but also a well of frustration.
JoomlArt need to get rid of K2. K2 is a zombie. JoomlArt could create a component better than K2, and stop relying so much of others. Or, support other extensions, such as TZ Portfolio …Phill ModeratorPhill

But Joomla 30 has no image gallery or option for videos (As in k2)…
Someday we’ll get rid of this mediocrity ?How much energy and creativity in developing useless things, but nobody is able to do what we need ?
When I started in Joomla was getting very frustrated, as I would be giving an account of the existing limitations, and always wondered why things could not work better? And to see. each month, plus a template, like so many others, reproducing without stopping, I thought, “when they notice you are already repeating, for too long, they will create something new. But I waited, and waited, and concludes that they never tire of repeating itself.
Is it because it is easier to repeat than to risk something totally different and new?
JaWall was different, but only on the outside …
Do we want too much?

I am 100% happy that Joomla 3.0 does not have an image gallery or video support built in. It really is a good thing. We should keep the core slim and fast then leave the details such as galleries to third parties as plugins. As well as weighing down the core having those features built in would seriously stifle creativity. It is the imagination of the third party developers that stops all sites looking the same. Just think how boring it would be if everyone used the same gallery or slideshow in their sites!

February 23, 2013 at 9:32 pm #484304A beautiful speech, but where are these designers? Why can not I use a gallery in JaWall? Yes I can but the result is catastrophic, because it does not work in Popup.
When breeders will pause the construction of templates and devote some effort to refine the details ?AuthorPostsViewing 14 posts - 1 through 14 (of 14 total)This topic contains 14 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated by pedrox 11 years, 10 months ago.
